WEATHER

Partly rainy weather is expected in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental as summer season nears end.

Cloudy skies, partly sunny to cloudy with rain showers, and thunderstorms in the morning or afternoon —these are the expected weather scenarios in the middle of May as temperature varies at 34°C to 35°C at daytime in Bacolod. It is mostly cloudy this week but it can be partly sunny in the weekend with some rain in the afternoon especially on Sunday, May 15.

Negros Occidental has recently declared a state of calamity due to the abnormally warm weather or El Niño phenomenon. Locals especially the farmers hope that the rainy season will come very soon to end the dry spell.

Prices remain stable in Bacolod City despite state of calamity declaration in Negros Occidental.

The province of Negros Occidental declared a state of calamity in the last week of April 2016. The declaration was made considering the PhP400-million damage and losses to agricultural crops in the province brought about by the El Niño phenomenon. Yet prices of basic and prime commodities have remained stable in Negros Occidental including Bacolod City as per the Department of Trade and Industry-Negros Occidental. No price freeze will be implemented.

Pendy’s, one of the must-visit restaurants in Bacolod, has transferred to a new location last February 29, 2016, although relatively near its old site. Formerly located at 25th Corner Lacson, it is now at 27th Lacson Street, near Rolling Hills, ABS-CBN Bacolod, and Tom N Toms Coffee.

Despite their change of address, Pendy’s hasn’t changed its menu of traditional Negrense favorites and is still serving its famous Half-moon, a half-moon-shaped sponge cake covered in egg custard. A piece of this dessert starts at PhP35.
