Northern Luzon, Baguio, enhanced community, Quarantine Updates, ECQ extension, COVID-19

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has just announced the extension of the enhanced community quarantine in selected high-risk areas in the country until May 15, 2020. Meanwhile, the places that are considered low to moderate-risk are placed under general community quarantine: a type of quarantine that’s more lenient compared to the ECQ. In Northern Luzon, the province of Benguet, including Baguio City, is still under ECQ, but provinces including Apayao, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Kalinga, Ilocos Sur, and Batanes have been placed under GCQ. In line with this, local government units are continuously coming up with initiatives and projects to help keep their residents healthy and safe.

Baguio Mayor warns to lock down moma-stained baranggays

More than ever, proper hygiene and sanitation must be observed. With this, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has ordered the Baguio City Police Office or BCPO to do aggressive monitoring against the unregulated moma or betel nut chewing and spitting in barangays. Magalong said that the presence of moma spits in barangays will be a reason for lockdown. The city already has an existing Anti-Moma Ordinance authored by Councilor Joel Alangsab which regulates the chewing and spitting of moma in public places and selling of moma products to minors. Violations thereof will be imposed with penalties. [1]
