Authorities are continuously coming up with ways to ensure safe and enjoyable travel now that restrictions lift in some provinces. One of these is the innovative travel management system, S-paSS. This new online travel system is now a requirement before traveling to various places in the country, including the Ilocos Region.

S-paSS aims to facilitate domestic travels of Filipinos by providing information like travel restrictions and contact details of different destinations. Now that the new online travel system approves in Ilocos, the province utilizes it for maximum travel monitoring. Should you find the need to travel to the home of the country's heritage and cultural sites, read below!

S-paSS is now fully activated in Region 1

The online travel management system, S-paSS, is now fully implemented in all provinces of Region 1, including its independent cities. Developed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the S-paSS or "Safe, Swift, and Smart Passage" is officially the country's online travel and mobility management system. It aims to monitor the local trips of Filipinos amid the quarantine restrictions implemented by local government units due to the pandemic.

Michael John Maquiling of DOST mentioned that the S-paSS has fully activated in all four provinces of Region 1, including Dagupan City. A total of 92,661 S-paSS users have been initially recorded in Ilocos by the DOST. They have activated 37,534 users in Ilocos Sur; 9,551 users in Ilocos Norte; 28,262 in La Union; and 16,664 users in Pangasinan.

Maquiling added that travelers would use a travel coordination permit (TCP) or travel pass-through permit (TPP) that S-paSS will issue. Individuals who need to travel must register their mobile numbers at s-pass.ph website to check if their destination is restricted or not. If a destination is restricted or unrestricted but will have to pass through restricted areas, whichever is the case, travelers will have to apply for a TCP.

The S-paSS will also help LGUs in monitoring incoming local travelers. The system will also provide travelers their travel history.
