Bye For Now: Baguio City Temporarily Closes Borders For Tourism
Leisure travel is postponed in Baguio City.

Tourism is postponed in Baguio City after borders are closed for leisure tourists.
It looks like we have to postpone our Baguio City trips for the following months. If you haven’t heard yet: Baguio City’s borders are closed from tourism as part of the local government’s safety protocol against the rising COVID-19 cases and the threat of the new variant, Omicron.
The Baguio Tourism Office announced in an advisory last January 3 that leisure travels requests through their Visitor Information and Travel Assistance (VISITA) system will not be accepted temporarily until further notice. However, those with pre-approved travels before the announcement will be allowed to visit during their appointed travel dates. He adds that most tourism hotels and accommodations in the area have booked guests until March.
City Administrator Bonifacio Dela Peña also said last January 3 that they will announce new leisure travel tourism guidelines and health protocols soon. Baguio City also doesn’t have any record of the new variant Omicron yet, but a contingency plan and safety protocols are in place just in case.
Baguio City currently has 73 active cases of COVID-19 as of January 2. The city also achieved herd immunity by vaccinating 91% of its target population in 2021. Baguio opened to tourism in 2021 under Alert Level 2 with health protocols.
