Boracay Island has always been a tourist hotspot. This is not about to change in the coming years. In fact, a continuous influx of tourists is expected, reinforcing the strong tourism industry in the island. Besides visiting tourists, the island is also attracting further investments, with businesses sprouting in every corner.

As another year begins, more developments are in the works. Here are five of the biggest developments in Boracay this 2018.

1. Airport expansion

Expansion projects at Boracay Airport will give way to more flights.

As the number of tourists visiting Boracay continues to grow, a bigger airport facility is to be expected in 2018. Caticlan is the major gateway to the world-famous island, being only a ten-minute ferry ride away. Caticlan Airport, officially named the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport, has been undergoing upgrades and is now called Boracay Airport. The improved facilities include a new passenger terminal, which is set to be completed by the third quarter of 2018. The expansion is eyed to cater to the increasing number of tourists flying via Caticlan.

San Miguel Corporation, who owns the airport, has also undertaken runway extension projects. The development is meant to accommodate bigger aircrafts to serve more domestic and international flights. With the expansion, airport management is already looking to accommodate six million passengers a year.

2. Boracay Newcoast

Boracay Newcoast is a 150-ha. mixed-use leisure and resort development in Barangay Yapak. This 2018, more hotels and an Ibiza-inspired commercial and retail strip are set to open at this Megaworld-owned property. Patterned after the township concept of Megaworld, the property is divided into five districts. These include Newcoast Village, Oceanway Residences, Shophouse District, Boutique Hotel District, and Savoy Hotel. Boracay Newcoast also has an exclusive 1-km. beach with three coves.

Oceanway Residences, a cluster of mid-rise condominiums, was among the first establishments to open to the public. Savoy Hotel opened its doors just last April. This year, Boracay Newcoast will be opening two more districts that are ideal for the investor community. The Shophouse District will feature restaurants, souvenir shops, and diving equipment rental stores. The Boutique Hotel District will welcome hotel investors and more tourists. Aside from new developments, a multitude of events, concerts, and other promotional activities are also expected to be held at Boracay Newcoast.

The property is located at the less crowded Ilig-Iligan Beach in Barangay Yapak. It is managed by the Property Management Corporation owned by FSB Land Holdings.

The property has two phases. Phase 1 is now under construction and will have eight prime, four-storey low-rise condominiums with roofdecks. Phase 1 of the project is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2019. Phase 2 will be a seven-storey building with 16 one-bedroom fully furnished units per floor.
