Malls in Iloilo City are taking on a new role amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from Iloilo City Hall and 180 barangay offices, three malls in the city are now hosting registration areas for Ilonggos who want to get the vaccine in Iloilo City. In hopes to help the government with the registration, they have allocated areas within their premises to help as many locals as possible sign up for a vaccine in Iloilo City.

The malls that have registration areas in Iloilo City are as follows:

• Festive Mall (Ground floor hallway, near the Adidas retail store)
• Robinsons Main (Ground floor, Ledesma Wing, near the fountain area)
• SM City (Lower ground floor, in front of Café Iloilo

According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, the Iloilo City Government’s Information Technology Department has developed a system that can hasten the registration process to get a COVID-19 vaccine shot. This initiative was also made to limit the time and interaction between people to avoid a possible transmission of the virus.

As part of the government’s vaccination plan, all Ilonggos aged 18 years old and above, non-residents who have jobs in the city, and senior citizens can receive free COVID-19 vaccine doses. However, these individuals must sign up at the nearest registration site.

The Iloilo City Government requires those who are interested to bring valid identification cards that show their address and their Philhealth Card, and they must also have an existing email address.

Currently, frontline workers are the priority of the local government for vaccination. After this group, senior citizens shall be vaccinated next. In terms of the types of vaccines, the Philippines has already granted five emergency use authorization to six COVID-19 vaccine developers: Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Gamaleya Institute, Johnson and Johnson, and Bharat Biotech.
