Cebu City may be the best place to go when you are looking for a good place to eat. But, its next door neighbor is starting to assert itself as one of the go-to places when tourists step foot on the shores of Cebu.

Mandaue City is also is slowly becoming a foodie’s paradise as new restaurants are opening all over the place. These restaurants have given residents and visitors more dining choices that are easy on the budget.


1. Akita Japanese Restaurant

Where: City Time Square 2, Mantawe Ave.,Tipolo, Mandaue City
Operating Hours: 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM; 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM, Tuesday to Sunday
Price Range: PhP80 to PhP490

Akita Japanese Restaurant serves that distinctive umami flavor of authentic Japanese food.

Located in City Times Square 2, Akita Japanese Restaurant is a good place to satisfy your cravings for authentic Japanese cuisine. The restaurant was previously situated along F. Cabahug Street before they transferred to their present location in February 2018.

The restaurant serves a good variety of Japanese food, including sashimi (thinly sliced raw fish), ebi roll (prawn roll), katsudon (rice topped with pork cutlet), and nikumori (roasted pork). The more popular items on their menu include the tempura, maki, and their different types of ramen.

Operating Hours: 10:00 AM- 10:30 PM, Monday to Thursday; 10:00 AM- 11:30 PM, Friday to Sunday

Eataliano’s Restaurant started serving authentic Italian food on March 18, 2018

If you feel like having Italian food without breaking the bank, you may want to check out Eataliano’s Restaurant. The restaurant is the brainchild of Rafael Food Industry owner Rafael Torres with the help of Elia Salvetta, his Italian consultant.

The restaurant offers a wide range of Italian food like the Amalfi seafood, lasagna bologna, carbonara di Lazio, and Firenze fish fillet. In addition, Eataliano’s Restaurant also has a good variety of pizzas and salads on its menu, including the Margherita la mia amica, Pescatora, Capri tuna salad, and Umbra all veggie salad.

3. Food Central

Where: J Centre Mall, Mandaue City
Operating Hours: 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday to Sunday

Food Central at J Centre Mall is not your typical mall food court. The Venetian-inspired interiors will make you wonder if you are still eating out in Cebu. While it is located indoors, the ceiling décor gives an ambiance of eating under a clear blue sky. Located on the third level of the mall, Food Central offers a good mix of Western and Asian food outlets for its customers.

Food Central opened in February 2018 and has at least 25 food outlets. Tenants at the food court include Leylam Shawarma, Mr. Softy, 99 Ramen, Marina Seafood, Tokyo Koroke, and Citrus Zone, among others.


4. Grab a Crab

Where: Guizo, Mandaue City
Operating Hours: 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday to Sunday
Price Range: PhP199 to PhP399

A good number of restaurants in Cebu have their own eat-all-you-can offerings. But, it is not easy to find a place offering eat-all-you-can grab promotions at a reasonable price. That is, until now. Grab a Crab is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant with an eat-all-you-can crab promotion at PhP199.

While the rate is limited to an hour of eating, you may find it challenging to eat seafood for a good whole hour. They offer small-size crabs, big-size crabs, tiger prawns, and lobsters. This hole-in-the-wall restaurant opened its doors to Cebuanos in May 2018.

When Charcoal Boy first opened its doors in Cebu, locals were immediately enamored by the oysters the restaurant offers. While it is not easy to find oysters sold at a reasonable price, Charcoal Boy has made this luxurious dish affordable to Cebuanos.

The oysters are offered in different varieties, including steamed oysters, crispy fried oysters, and hot chili oysters. In addition, the restaurant also offers grilled chicken, pork barbecue, grilled stuffed squid, and fried chicken skin, among others.
