The words ‘al fresco’ might be associated with dining outside without the comfort of cool air conditioning. But since the pandemic is still uncontrolled, al fresco dining is a safer option for those who want to finally eat outside. And now that tourist spots and activities in the province of Cebu start to reopen, Cebu’s food industry has resumed dine-in options, too.
Joining the reopening of food hubs in Cebu is Sugbo Mercado at The Garden Bloc in IT Park. Closed for almost four months to the public, Sugbo Mercado has reopened and embraced safety measures to invite Cebuanos back to the food night market. Open from Wednesday to Saturday, the food market lets you choose from over 50 local food stalls with countless menu choices!
Launched in 2015, the 2,500-square meter night market is a place that showcases the products of local food entrepreneurs. With its highly-curated offerings, Sugbo Mercado easily hit the spotlight and received the “Best of Cebu - Best Food Market” award in 2018 and 2019 from Sunstar. It was also endorsed by the Department of Tourism as the “First Weekend Food Market in Cebu,” making it a staple in most foodie tourists’ itineraries.
Now that it has reopened, Sugbo Mercado allows on-site dining but at a limited capacity only. Safety measures are also in place. For one, only two people can sit per table, and tables are safely spaced to ensure physical distancing among diners. Upon entry, customers are required to register their contact information via QR Code and have their temperature checked. Transparent barriers are also put up in kiosks for the mutual protection of the market’s vendors and diners.
You can experience the weekend food market once again! With the safety measures in Sugbo Mercado’s al fresco food market, you can enjoy your open-air food trip.
Sugbo Mercadois located at Garden Bloc, Asia Town, IT Park, Cebu City. They are open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
