If you’ve dreamt of visiting Vigan to taste their local cuisine and other unique delicacies, no doubt you will be excited to hear about this new bistro in Quezon City. Opened last June 3, 2017, 167 Kalye Ignacia is bringing a taste of Vigan flavors to Manila with their first branch in Quezon Avenue.

There’s no question that one of the owners is a master when it comes to Ilocano food as she has deep Vigan roots with her family hailing from the said city. With their vision of showcasing Vigan’s distinct homegrown products, the owners decided to open a restaurant that gives a very Ilocano vibe. One of the main ingredients for their recipes is longganisa (meat sausage), which is one of Ilocano’s most popular food products.

On top of 167 Kalye Ignacia’s menu is their special empanada stuffed with vegetables. To give authenticity to the food, their preparation of their version of Vigan Empanada is similar to how Ilocos empanadas are prepared by locals. However, they gave their version a twist by filling it with egg, munggo, cabbage, and grated Iongganisa. It is served with special Ilocos vinegar known as sukang Iloko—a perfect dip for traditional empanadas.

“We want to preserve the native way of preparing and cooking empanada which has thinner and crispier crusts with better texture,” says the owner.

Apart from empanada, the restaurant also serves quesadillas which they have also reinvented to appeal to local palate. The typical quesadilla recipes use burrito-style filling consists of either ground beef, chicken, or raw pork while 167 Kalye Ignacia’s Longga Quesadilla uses crumbled longganisa intensified with brimming cheese plus tomato dip.

Another snack offering in 167 Kalye Ignacia is the Vigan Nachos at PhP110 per serving. Still, as with all the fares in their menu, the longganisa continues to be the main ingredient in this light meal. And even with the rich cheesy taste of nachos, the longganisa flavor still shines through which is complemented by a blend of tomato and other spices. You can also pair this snack with refreshments like lemonade (PhP20) or gulaman (PhP15).

Beyond snacks, the restaurant also offers Vigan-Silog meal (PhP65) available anytime within their operating hours. This country-style meal, prepared with fried rice, egg, and longganisa, plus brewed coffee (PhP20) is a perfect combo even for a quick and delightful snack or dinner.

Of course, would their offerings be complete without selling longganisa? 167 Kalye Ignacia offers both cooked and raw longganisa for their customers. The cooked Vigan longganisa is priced at PhP190 while the raw ones can be ordered at PhP160 per 12 pieces. They also cater to requests for bulk orders of uncooked longganisa.

Looks like you don’t have to go far to taste Vigan’s cuisine like a local. If the recipes sound interesting to you, then you’ll find it comfortable to visit this new bistro in Quezon Avenue.

167 Kalye Ignacia store is located in 167 Mother Ignacia, Diliman, Quezon City. The store is open every Tuesday to Saturday; 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
