A testament to this is the fact that the country has produced some of the greatest stage performers over the last few decades such as Liza Macuja and Lea Salonga. And despite developments in technology that pushed us to prefer films over live performance, Filipinos still patronize theater shows for their artistry and incredible emotional performances. Aegis is undeniably one of the most iconic rock groups in the country, with their highly infectious songs still remaining as solid karaoke staples. At some point in our lives, we have heard and even sang along to some of their songs as they are played across the neighborhood or in a singing contest.

After the successful first run more than half a decade ago, their immortal story once again gets reprised with Rak of Aegis, which will be returning for its 6th year at The Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA). Around 20 songs will be used for the play, which includes hits such as “Luha” (tears), “Halik” (Kiss), Christmas Bonus, and “Basang-basa sa Ulan” (Very Wet From The Rain), which Aegis fans will surely have fun singing along to.

Since 2005, Virgin Labfest has been an outlet for both professional and amateur playwrights to showcase their unedited, unpublished, unstaged, untested, and untried works. It has been the breeding ground for the most brilliant playwrights, newbie or veteran, and it’s where genius is made, from the paper to the stage.

This year, five sets of plays will be available for attendees to choose from and all will be held at the CCP Studio Theater. Three of the 15 plays were “revisited” or crowd favorites from last year’s festival. Virgin Labfest was created by Manila-based playwrights group Writer’s Bloc, Tanghalang Pilipino, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

The Chinese truly influenced Filipinos in so many ways, as manifested by their language and to the spendthrift, business-minded culture, among many others. In a less textbook representation of Filipino-Chinese relationship, Binondo A Tsinoy Musical is a play that tackles how two people from different cultures found one thing in common: love. Besides the love story that will focus on hopeless romantic Lily and cynic Ah Tiong, the play will also tackle deeper issues such as racial prejudice and political conflicts. Binondo, A Tsinoy Musical is directed by Joel Lamangan and written by Ricky Lee, along with Eljay Deldoc and Gershom Chua.

Tickets are available at Ticketworld outlets and Ticketworld online.
