Manila, travel, things to do

Christmas will fall on December 25.

Christmas will happen this week in Metro Manila and the rest of the country. December 24, Monday and December 25, Tuesday, which are Christmas Eve and Christmas, respectively, are announced as national holidays. This means that there will be no classes for students and no work for employees. The holidays will be pleasant for Manilenos as the weather is expected to be generally sunny for the rest of the week. In terms of traffic and travels, several government agencies such as the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) will implement guidelines and measures to ensure that all tourists and travelers will have a safe holiday.

Weather: Generally sunny weather for the whole week

Christmas will be pleasantly sunny in Metro Manila as predicted by Accuweather. A cloudy weather is also expected on some days of the week but it will be mostly sunny. For anyone who wants to venture outside during the holidays, the weather would be generally in your favor since the day temperature ranges from 31 to 32° C, while night temperature is expected to fall between 22 to 25° C [1]. Just make sure to bring an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays.

Traffic News: Cars limited to 20 kilometers per hour during holiday rush

EDSA Traffic Manager Bong Nebrija stated that cars during the holiday rush hour are only expected to hit 20 kilometers per hour (kph). Nebrija also stated that the reason for the speed limit is the high number of Christmas activities in malls and offices, as well as the number of people visiting Manila during the season [2].

Travel Updates

PNP ensures that the holidays would be safe

The National Capital Region Police Office has announced on Sunday that the police is gathering information and will continue to monitor any security threats in Manila during the holidays. PNP also ensures that there would be enough police to keep the metro secure [3].

Hotel booking status

The general status of hotel bookings in Metro Manila from December 22 to 28 is generally favorable to tourists who do not have reservations yet. Major and minor hotels alike still have available rooms [4].

NLEX prepares for the holiday rush

The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation stated that they are ready to accommodate the surge of vehicles at the NLEX and Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway during the peak travel season. Personnel are expected to have extended working hours. They are also expected to assist motorists and monitor traffic conditions [5].
