Valentine’s Day, travel, things to do, Manila

February 14 will see many couples out on candlelit romantic dinners.

Hearts will be all over Metro Manila since Valentine’s Day will be happening this week. The weather will cooperate, as it is expected to be pleasantly sunny with low chances of rain, making dates and trips convenient. However, anyone who commutes to areas in or nearby Pasig City will have to brace themselves for the worsening traffic, as the CP Garcia Bridge near the C5 flyover will be closed due to repair works.

In addition to the improvements that will be made in Manila, the Manila Bay would be under stricter security now that an anti-littering patrol will be dispersed all over the area. Meanwhile, commuters taking Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) systems will also have to take note of the new ordinance against bringing bottled liquids in the trains.

Weather: Generally sunny weather

Good news for those who will have a date on Valentine’s Day: the weather forecast for the entire week would be sunny and the chance for rains will be low. Anyone who would be going on a picnic, hike, or day stroll will experience dry weather, although the winds will be cool during the morning and night time. Day temperature is expected to range between 31 °C to 32 °C while nights will be colder with the range of 22 °C to 24° C [1]. To cope with the weather and temperature, anyone who would be going outside for the week must bring an umbrella for the sun’s UV rays and apply sunscreen. Wearing comfortable clothes and bringing outerwear are also recommended.

Traffic News: Heavy traffic expected around Pasig City due to repair works

Anyone who will be commuting to Pasig City will have to face additional traffic around C.P. Garcia and C-5 Flyover due to repair works that will last for a year. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes. C.P Garcia is among the lists of bridges that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will have under repair this 2019 [2].

Travel Updates

Anti-littering enforcers to patrol Manila Bay

As an addition to the improvements along the Manila Bay, at least 30 anti-littering enforcers were dispersed along the bay area to uphold the cleanup operations. Apprehended individuals would be fined PhP500 or must render community service [3].

Hotels availability is good

There are still enough available accommodations in Metro Manila on Valentine’s Day for those who will travel to the city this week [4].

Passed Law or Ordinance: Bottled liquids now banned in LRT and MRT trains

After the devastating terror attacks in Jolo, the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-3 management has decided to ban passengers from bringing bottled liquids in all the LRT and MRT trains to avoid possible attacks of terrorism. According to the management, bottled liquids might be used as liquid bombs. As such, passengers are advised to drink their beverages before entering the station or they will not be allowed to enter unless they dispose of their drinks [5].
