Dry your tears, get up, and let the metro’s dining and entertainment places be your first venues to move on and enjoy life!

Aside from articles on New Year resolution ideas and tips, year-end lists of showbiz breakups in print and online magazines were also plenty this year, including the KathNiel love team. It’s not difficult for anyone to adopt a pessimistic view of love—that which Filipinos call “walang forever,” which is roughly translated to “(a love that lasts) forever does not exist.”

So, the question remains: where do broken hearts, with jobs and responsibilities, go in the Metro? You can’t just escape coming across couples celebrating the season, but you can find places with activities to keep you busy or entertained with your friends! Here are five places for starters:

1. Music 21 Plaza

Where: Block 1, Lot 11, Shaw Boulevard, Brgy. San Antonio Pasig City
Operating Hours:
Monday to Thursday, 12:00 PM to 5:00 AM
Friday to Sunday, Open Daily

There are thousands of songs to choose from.

Drown all the pain and hate away by singing to Adele’s gut-wrenching songs or shouting all the angst with The Scripts’s hit songs. Regardless of whatever genre you wish to belt with, the place is soundproof, and no nuisance neighbor would bother you.

Music 21 Plaza is conveniently located in the heart of Ortigas Business District and ready to welcome you after a hard day’s work and hide the tears. The food as well as the drinks are affordable. The rooms are clean and tidy, big enough to hold 16 people. The staff is very courteous, and the equipment used is state-of-the-art. So, belt out all the pain away!

Music 21 Plaza also has branches in Timog and Alabang.

2. Aperitif

Where: Alabang Town Center, Alabang-Zapote Road, Brgy. Ayala-Alabang, Muntinlupa City
Operating Hours: Daily, 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM

People believe cakes and gelatos are much like chocolate; they can make “your happy” rise here at Aperitif!

They say that people who are depressed tend to binge eat. Well, Aperitif is a glasshouse where you can have a cozy and relaxed binge-eating episode. Who said that heartbroken people should settle for eating a pint of ordinary ice cream?

Aperitif serves good gelato, cookies, pastries, cakes, and more; customers can have a free taste of all the flavors they offer—not bad for those indecisive folks. The restaurant also offers cakes, do.

The price is on the heftier side, but once you’ve tasted their delectable gelato, you will know that every cent is worth it—worthier than the amount of time and effort you have spent with the person who broke your heart!

3. SM Movie Theater

Where: SM North EDSA, Quezon City
Operating Hours: Daily, 10:50 AM to 11:00 PM

An hour and a half or more of movie time can help you forget for a while or realize a life lesson you would not know otherwise.

Spend some time with friends and watch the latest flick. They say that in moments of utter sadness, you must surround yourself with people who care for you, dwell on their positive outlook, and start smiling. What better way to smile than watching a movie?

Watching a good film, even blockbusters at that, is good for the heart, and the long wait in line for a movie ticket should not be a problem because SM Cinema tickets can be reserved online. Now and then, SM cinemas also have promos like free popcorn when you buy at least two tickets.

What you’ll like about the movie theater is its sense surround system, which is very important to heartbroken moviegoers! Why? You get to fully enjoy the heart-thumping scenes, which will make you remember that your heart is alive and kicking, even if you previously felt that your heart died with the love you lost! Boom!

4. Mystery Manila

Where: Unit L305, 3rd Floor Century City Mall, Kalayaan Ave. cor. Salamanca St, Brgy. Poblacion, 1210 Makati City
Operating Hours:
Monday to Friday, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Saturday, 10:00 AM to 10:30 PM
Sunday, 10 AM to 9:30 PM

Though some mysteries in life remain unanswered, all mysteries in Mystery Manila can be solved if you are competent or lucky enough!

Why don’t you try something new and create new memories? This is where Mystery Manila comes in. Again, dragging all the friends (the support system) along is better.

Mystery Manila is a recreation center that offers a fun way of creating new memories. Here, you will play a game involving solving a mystery for 60 minutes. Upon entering the chosen mystery, the guide will briefly describe what to expect and the challenges you must overcome.

Note that the place is kid-friendly, so you can invite your family to join with you. The game room is suitable for two to seven pax per room at PhP400 per head.

Aside from solving the mystery, the group’s goal was to be on the leaders’ board of Mystery Manila. But halfway through the time, you may seem lost, so the goal wilted down to simply finishing the game. But don’t feel defeated afterward, for you had so much fun going through each clue, laughing your way out. At Mystery Manila, win or lose, you are sure to share a fun and happy memory with the people who will hold onto you until and even after the mystery is solved (or, in our case, not solved!), not just with someone who would let you go when it seems convenient! (ouch!)

5. Z Hostel Roofdeck

Where: 5660 Don Pedro St. Makati
Operating Hours:
Tuesday to Thursday, 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM
Friday to Saturday, 6:00 PM till Late
Sunday, 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM

Looking at the city differently can give you a different perspective.

Can a place where you can mingle with friends and strangers, overlooking the Makati skyline at night, help you heal your broken heart? It will likely remind you how socializing feels as a free, single, and carefree soul, complete with a romantic backdrop.

Z Hostel is open 24 hours, but the Z Hostel Roofdeck opens at 6:00 PM and closes at 2:00 AM. If you and your friends are not keen on clubbing or partying and would instead sip wine or cocktails and talk to each other, this place is for you. You’ll find a picture-perfect spot with a Makati Skyline for a background, and it comes with a table to hold your drinks and food. The place becomes crowded but not rowdy at nighttime, as many security guards and crowd control are outside.

You’ll pay PhP350, including entrance fees and food and drinks. The prices on their menu are affordable, and the food is palatable enough. Nonetheless, their primary offerings, their beer choices from international and local brands, are worthy of being their main attractions. And definitely, the openness of the place and the breathtaking views of the city draw its guests to keep coming back.

The end of a relationship does not signal the end of your life. As Lau Tzu once said, “New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings,” so for people still mending and healing their broken hearts, take it slow. Choose to continue living, one step at a time–live for your family, friends, and those who love you. Continue to view life with optimism and with a grateful heart.

After being broken, it’s time to widen your horizon. There are many places to recover and meet someone new under the big sky, but take it slow lest you trip and fall again for the wrong one!
