Metro Manila and surrounding provinces have been and still are affected by the Taal Volcano's phreatic eruption in Batangas last January 12, 2020. Ash fall may persist in Metro Manila due to the wind shift. Locals and tourists are given precautions as inhaling substances in the ash can have negative effects on health. Meanwhile, for some brighter news, transportation systems in Metro Manila faced upgrades. For one, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) issued an updated version of the number coding scheme. The MMDA upgraded the ferry system along Pasig City by adding two new boats. Lastly, motorists along NAIAX are also reminded to follow the speed limit in the area. Read on for the full updates.

Weather Advisory: Sunny to rainy weather

The weather will vary from sunny to rainy. It would be sunny and cloudy on most days of the week, but there are chances for rainfall in some days. The temperature will range from 31 °C to 32 °C during the day and the nights will be cooler with 23 °C to 24 °C [1].

Along with the rain, residents and tourists in Manila are also advised to take precautions against the possible continuation of ash fall. When going out, bring an umbrella as protection against rainfall or ash fall. Wearing long-sleeved clothing, goggles, and face masks also adds safety against health risks. Avoid wearing contact lenses to avoid eye injuries.

Traffic News: MMDA released coding scheme updates

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has updated their number coding scheme. The update does not affect the numbers of license plates and coding days, but rather the areas covered by the scheme. Changes in the scheme are the inclusion of Malabon City and exclusion of East-West NLEX Service Road via Valenzuela [2].

According to the update, cities in Metro Manila that are not required to follow the coding are:

• Navotas
• Muntinlupa (Alabang-Zapote Road)
• Marikina (except Marcos Highway)
• Pateros
• Taguig (except East Service Road, C5, and Manuel L. Quezon)

Meanwhile, cities with coding hours from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM with no window hours are:

• Makati
• Caloocan
• Las Pinas
• Malabon
• Mandaluyong
• Manila
• Pasay (except portions of Buendia, Airport Road, Sales Road, Domestic Road, and MIA Road)
• Paranaque
• Quezon City
• San Juan
• Valenzuela

Pasig City will have window hours from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. But several roads will not have window hours and cannot be used from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM:

• C5
• Shaw Boulevard (R. Magsaysay to Pasig Boulevard)
• Marcos Hi-Way (Katipunan to Sumulong Hi-Way)
• Ortigas Avenue (Santolan to Imelda Avenue)

Travel Updates

Two new boats added to Pasig River ferry service

To accommodate high demands of their services, the MMDA added two new boats for the Pasig River ferry system. The ferry system will now have more units to carry passengers along 11 stations from Makati to Manila, especially during rush hour [3].

NAIA Expressway installs screen that shows speed limit

Motorists passing by NAIA Expressway are reminded by the expressway management to be mindful of the implemented speed limit in the area. NAIAX has installed digital screens that will show every vehicle's speed in kilometers per hour. The screen will show your speed in red if you go above the speed limit. Motorists who are driving within the limit can see their speed in green [4].
