Metro manila, travel, things to do, chinese new year 2020

To start the week, Filipinos and Filipino-Chinese communities in Metro Manila celebrate Chinese New Year 2020 on the 25th. Festivities in Binondo and all over the metro are expected. In addition to this, the week will also be filled with transportation updates around Metro Manila, like heavier traffic along Roxas Boulevard and the prohibition of motorcycle taxis. Lastly, hotel room availability for the Chinese New Year is abundant for those who are planning to go on a staycation during the holiday weekend. Read on for the full updates.

Weather: Cloudy to rainy weather

Heads up: the weather will be mostly cloudy during the entire week, with a chance for rainfall on the 31st. According to weather forecasts, the skies will be partly sunny and the temperature would be warm, ranging from 30 °C to 32 °C. Since the weather can change quickly, make sure to bring an umbrella for rain protection [1].

Traffic News

Expect heavier traffic around Roxas Boulevard

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advises the public to get ready for heavier traffic around Roxas Boulevard in the coming two months. This is due to the relocation of electric posts in the area for the construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project. MMDA stated that the affected area would be between Redemptorist Road and Bradco Avenue [2].

Angkas and other motorcycle TNVS deemed ‘illegal’

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) officially deemed motorcycle taxis “illegal” after reports and a study found that this transportation method violates guidelines set by the Technical Working Group (TWG) of DOTr. Enforcement is not definite yet, but according to statements, it could start soon [4].

Travel Update: Chinese New Year hotel booking status

For those who are planning on going on a staycation near Binondo Manila for Chinese New Year, available hotel rooms for the weekend are still plenty [5].
