The rainy season has officially begun in the Philippines, and yet another significant weather phenomenon is on the horizon: La Niña.

La Niña is a weather phenomenon marked by cooler sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean.

This year, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) anticipates that La Niña, a climate condition with the potential to impact the public significantly, will likely develop between August and October and continue until the first quarter of 2025.

According to PAGASA, increased rainfall in specific regions of the country may occur in the forthcoming months, leading to increased flooding and landslides. Thus, government agencies and the general public are advised to take proactive measures to anticipate its occurrence.
