Last week, President Rodrigo Duterte has announced the extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until April 30. As the ECQ goes on, the local government of Palawan continues to impose measures to help maintain order in the area. For one, karaokes will be temporarily banned to prevent gatherings and encourage social distancing. In terms of transportation, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) dismantled checkpoints in both provincial and national roads. For consumers, there would be no price hikes for basic goods and commodities. However, liquors will be banned during the entire ECQ period. In world news, the cases for COVID-19 has reached 1 million.

Karaokes temporarily banned during ECQ
A temporary ban of karaoke is implemented by the city government in order to maintain social distancing among residents. City Administrator Atty. Arnel Pedrosa stated that karaokes encourage public gatherings and enhance person-to-person contact through the use of microphones, songbooks, and remote controls.
The ban will affect public sing-alongs while home karaokes in households will be regulated by the city police in coordination with barangay officials, city public order, and the city’s Anti-Crime Task Force (ACTF). Pedrosa also said that the ban is effective immediately and will be in full force until the end of the ECQ. Any person of legal age can be arrested once found guilty. Public officers who maliciously prevent the ban will be held liable under applicable laws as well. The punishment and fines for violators were not disclosed [1].
Checkpoints along national and provincial roads will be dismantled
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered barangays to dismantle checkpoints in national and provincial roads since these are found to hinder the delivery of goods, essential workers, and necessities during the ECQ. The Philippine National Police (PNP) and PNP personnel will be the only authorized group to conduct inspections [2].

No price hike in basic goods and commodities
Prices of basic goods and commodities will remain the same as a price freeze is strictly implemented by the Provincial Price Coordinating Council (PPCC). The PPCC will monitor prices all over Palawan. The price freeze will cover rice, pork, chicken, seafood, fruits and vegetables, root crops, prime agricultural products, canned goods, dairy, eggs, coffee, instant noodles, personal hygiene products, and other necessities.
It will be in full force while the entire country is in a state of calamity due to COVID-19 [3]. Those who will violate the price freeze will be imprisoned for five to 15 years and will be fined PhP5,000 up to PhP2 million. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has implemented the price freeze under Proclamation No. 922 (Declaration of a Public Health Emergency) last March 8.
Along with the karaoke ban, a temporary liquor ban will also be imposed all over Palawan for the entire duration of the ECQ. The ban will prohibit distribution and public consumption of alcoholic beverages. Just like the karaoke ban, the prohibition of liquor is implemented to lessen close contact among residents and to encourage social distancing during ECQ.
Businesses such as restaurants, hotels, retail stores, convenient stores, markets, supermarkets , pharmacies, drugstores and other establishments will be prohibited from selling liquor to any individual. Establishments caught selling liquors will have their permits and licenses suspended and will be closed immediately. Meanwhile, people who already have liquor are allowed to drink it within it the confines of their own homes between 7:00 PM to 10:0 0PM provided there’s an important occasion. Fines and punishments for individuals are not disclosed but they will be recommended for prosecution [4].
