Aside from implementing safety protocols, preparing for local tourism and the coming holiday season are the main priorities of the Palawan local government. Puerto Princesa residents are bracing for the reopening of tourism through a three-weekend caravan. The holiday spirit is also felt in SM Puerto Princesa as the mall lit up its 30-foot Christmas tree. Lastly, the Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO) will postpone the disconnection of unpaid electricity bills.
Travel News: Three-weekend caravan to kick off Puerto Princesa’s official tourism reopening
A three-weekend caravan in Puerto Princesa will set the official reopening of tourism in the city. The caravan will be on November 14, 21, and 28 and will happen in three of the city’s destinations. City Assistant Tourism Officer Demetrio Alvior said that the caravan will feature local vloggers, bloggers, and influencers. The event is organized to let the public know that Puerto Princesa is open and ready for tourism.
As of November 5, the three selected destinations are Langogan, Sitio Sabang, and along the west coast area. The reopening of the Puerto Princesa Underground River may also be included in the event if the spot passes the inspection of the city’s incident management team. However, the reopening will only be open for locals since tourists from other provinces are not allowed to travel to the area. [2]
Banks and Remittances News: Electricity disconnection due to unpaid bills postponed until December 31
The Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO) announced that there will be no electricity disconnection until December 31 for members who have unpaid bills. PALECO’s decision is in accordance with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) memo that was issued last October 29. However, PALECO stated that the ‘no disconnection’ rule is only applicable for members who have monthly consumption that is not higher than 70kWh [4]. Exemptions from the rule are government-owned agencies, corporations, offices, structures, and installations since they are more capable of paying.
