Despite the stress and suffering caused by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, kindness is still prevalent. Ever since the pandemic started, Filipinos have been finding ways to help each other, and one of the most recent efforts are community pantries. Just a few days since the first community pantry was launched in Maginhawa Street, Quezon City, community pantries have popped up across the country, and various community pantries in Palawan have also been established.

Want to share or donate food? You can drop them off at any of the 5 community pantries in Palawan below.

1. Kape Hardinera’s Community Pantry

Location: Manalo Extension, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan

The Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa (AVPP)’s “Kalinga ni Maria Kindness Center” was established to aid Puerto Princesa residents who need food supplies. The pantry’s supplies will be coming from AVPP’s donations. Stubs will be distributed among recipients to ensure proper social distancing. As of April 21, the AVPP turned the Kindness Center “mobile” which means that it will be going to different parts of Puerto Princesa. The full schedule for the mobile community pantry can be found at AVPP’s Facebook page. Residents can pre-register to secure a slot.

3. Mesa ng Pag-Asa by the Kusina Palaweño Project

Residents of Barangay San Miguel can donate or receive food supplies from the Mesa ng Pag-asa community pantry launched by Kusina Palaweño last April 18. Only 50 persons per day will be given supplies, but those who won’t make the cut-off will be given a stub that will guarantee their slot for the next day. To donate, you may message Kusina Palaweño’s Facebook account or drop off your donations at Baltan Street.

4. Gulay ng Masa by BSP Palawan-PPC Council and ESOP Council Chapter

5. Long Beach Community Pantry

Residents can also barter items at the pantry.

Another initiative offering healthy food is the Long Beach Community Pantry. However, the pantry currently does not allow children and senior citizens to line up due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in Barangay New Agutaya. To lessen waste and plastic use, residents are also advised to bring eco bags and other items like bottles that can be used to store condiments.

Despite these trying times, it is admirable how Filipinos still help each other through acts of kindness like community pantries.
