After confirming an increase in the number of patients in the country infected by the novel coronavirus or COVID-19, malls have started to observe strict precautionary measures to protect their shoppers. Since the confirmation of the first coronavirus case last January 30, shopping malls have imposed the following precautionary measures to assure the public that they prioritize everybody’s health and safety:

1. Hand sanitizers and alcohol are installed at all mall entrances.
2. All employees and security personnel are required to wear face masks.
3. Checking the temperature of all shoppers entering the mall is strictly implemented.
4. Comfort rooms are being sanitized every 30 minutes.
5. Escalators, handrails, and elevator buttons are being disinfected.

In addition to these, SM Supermalls will be prohibiting people with a temperature above 37.6°C from entering their malls.

The Department of Health also advises that those who have been showing symptoms including fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulty must consult a healthcare professional immediately.

The Philippines confirmed its first case of COVID-19 last January 30, 2020. The number of cases since then has increased greatly, prompting the government and local businesses to take big precautionary measures.
