Puerto Princesa City’s COVID-19 daily record shows decreased to between 60 to 80 cases compared to last month’s average of 120. The city will remain under modified enhanced community quarantine status (MECQ) until the end of June to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the city, as recommended by the Malacañang.

However, last June 17, the local government implemented more relaxed MECQ protocols of curfew hours, establishment operations, and travel moratoriums. The curfew hours in Puerto Princesa start at 9:00 PM until 5:00 AM. Meanwhile, business establishments such as barbershops and beauty salons can operate with a maximum capacity of 30 percent. Also, religious gatherings are permitted to operate at 30 percent capacity. As of writing, the city government is waiting for the Inter-Agency Task Force’s (IATF) approval on the proposed seven-day extension of the inbound travel ban.

Furthermore, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan asked the Provincial Health Office (PHO) to examine the immediate implementation of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction testing at Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital (CSGH). This urgent matter is to decongest the COVID-19 laboratory, reduce the backlogs, and expedite the release of Ospital ng Palawan (ONP) results in the northern part of Palawan.

The coronavirus cases in Palawan are slowing down; however, it is also not decreasing. With the government’s efforts to contain the spread and expedite COVID-19 testing in Palawan, the public is still encouraged to observe the minimum health standards and avoid violations.
