After recovering from the moderate to heavy rains brought by tropical depression ‘Amang’ last week, Bacolod City finally expects favorable weather ahead. No need to postpone your outdoor activity plans, however, for the weather on Tuesday until Saturday will be pleasant with only just a few clouds around. The forecasted temperature this week will range from 28°C as the lowest and 30°C as the highest [1].
Traffic News: Established road networks key to boost tourism
It is necessary to establish the provinces road networks to boost tourism, said Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Helen Catalbas. Catalbas revealed that for 2019, out of 142 proposed road projects from different legislative districts in the Western Visayas, 11 are for Negros Occidental.
The cities that will benefit the road projects are Sagay, Cadiz, Talisay, Kabankalan, Sipalay, and the town of Binalbagan. The projects are composed of road constructions, rehabilitation, and upgrading of roads in the cities with an initial appropriation of PHP420million.
She added that once these road projects are completed, the province will be able to offer many tourist destinations. Thus, more livelihood programs will be provided to the community [2].

DOTr funded Bacolod-Silay airport expansion
To accommodate the growing number of passengers in Bacolod-Silay Airport, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) allocated P222 million budget for the airport’s expansion project [3].
For 14 years now for Bacolodnons have been celebrating the Chinese New Year through Bacolaodiat Festival. Every year, the city government prepares exciting activities like vibrant parades, street parties, and mall events during the Bacolaodiat Festival. This year’s celebration will take place on February 1 to 5, 2019.
One of the highlights of the five-day celebration is the Bacolaodiat Lantern Dance Competition. Other shows happening this Chinese New Year include cultural events, a nightly fireworks display, and a lantern-making contest. The local Filipino-Chinese community and Chinese schools will also participate in the Dazzling Grand Parade [4].
Passed Laws and Ordinance: Implementation of the excise tax starts to take effect
This year, the implementation of the second tranche of the excise tax is expected to take effect. More business owners fear that the fuel price increase will also affect the prices of goods and services.
According to Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry Executive Director Frank Carbon, diesel price had increased up to P4 per liter since January 15.
Carbon also mentioned that the fuel price hike in some gasoline companies started last January 14 at the average of P2 per liter. Once the implementation of the additional excise tax continues, diesel price will increase up to P4.50 per liter and P3.50 per liter for the gasoline price. [5].
