Motorcycle lanes eyed to lessen traffic

A resolution authored by Councilor Ricardo Tan was recently approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panglungsod (City Council) requesting related government agencies to study the addition of bicycle and motorcycle lanes on major and minor roads in Bacolod City.
The purpose of the resolution is to lessen traffic in the city, and to minimize motorcycle and bicycle accidents.
Bacolod to Pampanga flight now available

Travelers can now take direct flights to Pampanga from Bacolod at the Bacolod–Silay International Airport. This new domestic route allows travelers from Bacolod to reach Pampanga and vice versa without passing through Manila. This development just comes in time for the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Clark, Pampanga which happens next month. The new route also makes it more accessible to travelers from Pampanga to enjoy and experience festivals in Negros such as Sinulog in Kabankalan City, Lubay Lubay Festival in the municipality of Cauayan, and Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City which will all happen this January.

Chorizo is one of the most commonly served breakfast staples in the Philippines. However, chorizo podpod is one of a kind because the sausages are served crushed. Originally from Talisay City, there are two family recipes for this dish. One is from the Manaloto clan and the other from the Ereñeta clan, but both are inherited from their matriarch Doña Josefina Ereñeta. Chorizo podpod can be found at Roli's Jr. in Foodzone Bacolod, 9th Lacson Street, Bacolod City.
Paitan Monkey Sanctuary

Paitan Monkey Sanctuary located in Calatrava, Negros Occidental is one notable destination in town. The sanctuary is best for people who are into nature and who would love to have a close encounter with monkeys. Also, the place gives the visitors a taste of how it feels to be like in Lopburi, Thailand where monkeys are people-friendly. The attentive, smart, curious and playful creatures are very fun to watch, which is why tourists keep coming back.

Galletas are very thin, round, and crispy cookies which are great as take-home gifts or pasalubong from Bacolod. The cookies are homemade and have a flavorful taste which make it one of the favorite treats of visitors. Shoppers can buy galletas at Virgie’s Homemade Products. They also carry other pasalubong items like barquillos (crispy biscuit roll), biscocho (baked bread topped with butter and sugar), camias (tree sorrel) twirl, lubid-lubid (fried bread with powdered sugar), and caramel tart.
Events in Bacolod

Entertainment events will make the weekend exciting in Bacolod. Typecast and Valley of Chrome will headline the Crows & Vikings Tour this January 13, 7:00 PM at Benjamin Hall, 4th Street Lacson. Typecast is an alternative rock band famous for their songs like “Will You Ever Learn” and “Not About You,” while Valley of Chrome is a Philippine metal band that is currently very popular in the underground scene.

On the other hand, Negros HipHop United, will host Unity-for-a-Cause also on January 13. Their New Year’s party will be held at Fat Ninja Diner from 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Negros HipHop United is a group which aims to unite all aspiring rappers, singers, graffiti artists, b-boy or dance crew members, disc jockeys, and musicians around Negros Occidental.
More rains on the second week of January

The weather forecast in Bacolod for the second week of January includes thunderstorms. If you’re planning to go to Lakawon Island or hike in the mountain ranges of Negros Occidental, it is recommended to reschedule it because of the bad weather. One can have a staycation instead at hotels like L’Fisher Hotel, Cakefully Yours Hotel, and East Square Inn. One can also visit the newly refurbished Negros Museum and other heritage houses in Silay City to learn about Negros history while it’s raining outside.
The Provincial Capitol Park and Lagoon reopens

After being closed for almost a year, the PhP25-million lagoon project is finally finished. In cooperation with Ayala Land Inc., the Provincial Capitol Lagoon and Park is now more clean and neat because of major improvements on the tiled pathway, landscaped garden, gates, and lightings. There is also an improved children’s playground, plus a platform where visitors can take a picture of the iconic water buffalo statue in the park. The place is more attractive now as it complements the newly opened hotel, Seda Capitol Central.
