Check out these events happening around the city this month, get entertained and hooked with what’s in store this August 2018 in the City of Smiles.


1. Aromatic Night Fun run

When: August 8
Where: Bacolod Government Center
Ticket Prices: 3k – PhP350; 5k – PhP450; 10k – PhP550

Taking a marathon to the next level has totally been mastered by fun runs. Fun runs come with different gimmicks--from wearing superhero outfits, running with pets, getting chased by zombies to finishing the marathon full of color powders. On August 8, Aromatic Night Fun Run will be held at the Bacolod Government Center. It is a fun run during the night and you get to party with live bands afterward.

Since one of the sponsors of the event is Aromatic 1001, free massage will also available after the run. There are three race categories, 3k, 5k and 10k, which costs PhP300, PhP450, and PhP550, respectively. Registration sites will be at Planet Sports and Athlete’s Foot Robinsons Place Bacolod, The Sports Warehouse Citymall Goldenfield, and Four B’s K1 Sportshouse. Registration comes with a singlet, race bib and medals for the 50 people who can finish on top.

How to get there: From the Bacolod Downtown Area, just ride a jeepney that has a Homesite - Central Market route which passes by the government center. You can also take the Dona Juliana vice versa jeepney, just inform the driver to drop you off at Bangga Cory (the EDSA of Bacolod City). Then, hail a tricycle going to the government center.

Tips: Bring bottled water. People mostly tend to rely on the water provided by the organizers, but observing fun runs nowadays, they usually just offer you a few plastic cups in every milestone you reach. In order to keep yourself always hydrated, it is recommended to bring bottled water. You must also check your shoes and outfit if it’s in good condition, clean it as well to avoid any discomfort. The day before the race, you should also relax, and not overload yourself with carbohydrates.


2. Juris Live at 888 Chinatown Premier 10th Year Anniversary

Have you heard of M.Y.M.P? If yes, you already know that it has long been reported that this acoustic duo M.Y.M.P. had broken up. Juris Fernandez, the original duo’s vocalist pursued her solo career and even skyrocketed to stardom after that. Great news! She will be performing live on August 8 at 888 Chinatown Premier Mall as the establishment celebrates its 10th year anniversary. The great thing about this as well is that you’ll be able to watch it for free.

How to get there: From the downtown area, you can ride the Banago or Mandalagan - Libertad jeepney going to the mall. If you are coming from the north, you can ride the Bata-Libertad one.

Tips: Since all people will be gathered for the free concert, it will be great if you initiate talking to people. Concerts are a great way to socialize with strangers. With free admission public live shows, it is also recommended to come early especially if you’re a little bit petite. Lastly, take some snaps and do not take a video of the whole performance. Singers sing for people not for mobile phones. Experiencing it live, dancing, clapping and waving hands are just simple gestures to appreciate your favorite performer. If there is a photo opportunity, you should be always on the go and make sure that your mobile phones are fully charged.




3. Eigasai: Japanese Film Festival

When: August 9-12

Free movie everyone! Yes, you’ve read that right. If you happen to like watching movies, visit SM City Bacolod on August 9 to 12 for Eigasai: Japanese Film Festival. It is a great place to go to if you’re a fan of Japanese movies. The event will screen movies for free, just check the movie schedules to know what movies you will be watching.

How to get there: Either take the Bata, Mandalagan, or Shopping La Salle-Libertad jeepney for those who are coming from the main roads of Bacolod. Don’t forget to ask the driver if he’s dropping by the mall.

Tips: Days and days of watching new movies may seem like the dream, but if you want to remember anything at all from the festival, it will be best to bring along a pen and notebook. It is also recommended to take breaks, might as well go for a coffee or take time to chill and process your emotions. Watching different films simultaneously can be demanding. And of course, bring some bottled water and tissue just in case. And lastly, by giving respect to the production always stay for the film credits.


4. 2018 Summer Concert Series

When: August 18, 2018
Where: Santuario de La Salle
Ticket Prices: VIP - PhP1,000; Regular – PhP500; Student – PhP300

People are always talking about how vibrant and diverse the local music scene is these days, but where exactly are the artists? Good thing, you can come to 2018 Summer Concert Series at Santuario de La Salle. The concert series will be held at Santuario de La Salle and ticket prices are at PhP1,000 for VIP, PhP500 for regular admission, and PhP300 for students. It will feature Mary Ann and Nenen Espina, soprano and pianist, respectively. The series has already started with previous performers were New York-based pianist and composer, Hayk Arseyan and bass-baritone Jonathan Zaens. The concert will showcase a repertoire composed of diverse works from the Baroque era to Contemporary times, and also serve as a tribute to the culture and arts in the province through art and cultural initiatives.

How to get there: If you’re coming from the downtown area, ride either Eroreco or Shopping La Salle and enter the grounds of USLS, make sure to pass through Gate 2.

Tips: Research. If someone drags you to go to a concert that you’re not really that familiar with. The best thing to do is research the kind of songs and genres they play. Especially in this concert where there are no mainstream artists performing it, it will be best to have knowledge about them first to fully appreciate the kind of music they play and perform.


5. JYP Nation Fan Convention in Negros 2018

When: August 18
Where: CityMall Mandalagan
Ticket Prices: PhP250 (Limited Seats; No Walk-Ins)

Celebrate Korean pop music and meet new friends with same interest as yours!



Bacolod K-pop enthusiasts has now an avenue where they can bring and expand Korean pop music to the City of Smiles. JYP Nation Fan Convention in Negros 2018 will be held at CityMall Mandalagan on August 18. Ticket prices will be at PhP250. Unfortunately, there are limited seats available and walk-ins are not allowed. Ramjay Galang will be the special guest in the event, GOT7’s Kim Yugyeom lookalike in the Philippines. Special surprises and prices await for K-pop fans who will be coming to the event.

How to get there: Either ride a Mandalagan, Bata, or Shopping-Northbound jeepney and just ask to be dropped off at City Mall Mandalagan

Tips: Have enough sleep. I know you will be so excited for the convention, but to fully enjoy the event you must have enough sleep and energy. If you are a particular K-pop group, just respect other fans and artists, and of course just like any event, read the rules of the event and the venue itself.




6. L’ Baile

When: August 24, 2018
Where: La Proa Hall, L ’Fisher Hotel
Ticket Prices: PhP350 (inclusive of a free drink)

Love Ballroom? L ‘Fisher Hotel opens its doors to ballroom dancers all over the metro. May it be samba or tango, professional and social dancers can enjoy the Friday beat at the hotel's most elegant floor and historic place. L ‘Fisher Hotel presents L’ Baile an event for ballroom lovers at La Proa Hall on August 24. Tickets are at PhP350, inclusive of a free drink. If you are looking forward to dance your night away, this could be the ideal event for you.

How to get there: You can ride either Bata or Mandalagan-Libertad jeepney, whether you’re coming from the north or south of the city. Ask to be dropped off at L ’Fisher Hotel.

Tips: Knowing the proper dance steps is a must in attending this kind of events. Knowing the proper etiquette is a must too. Wear the proper attire and make sure to be groomed. Use a deodorant that is strong enough to last as long as you dance moves.
