Clear weather is expected this week following the heavy downpours brought by tropical depression ‘Amang’ last week. In the future, tourists can expect better airport services in Bacolod-Silay Airport as DOTr has granted the budget for airport expansion project. Meanwhile, the Bacolaodiat Festival will again bring good vibes on the streets of Bacolod City from February 1 until February 5. Finally, it is recommended to fuel up your vehicles in advance, as fuel prices will start to increase again due to the implementation of the second tranche of the excise tax.

Weather Advisory: Pleasant weather comes next after the short rain

After recovering from the moderate to heavy rains brought by tropical depression ‘Amang’ last week, Bacolod City finally expects favorable weather ahead. As Chinese New Year approaches, there is a possibility that light showers will fall shortly at the beginning of the week. No need to postpone your outdoor activity plans, however, for the weather on Tuesday until Saturday will be pleasant with only just a few clouds around. The forecasted temperature this week will range from 28°C as the lowest and 30°C as the highest [1].

Traffic News: Established road networks key to boost tourism

It is necessary to establish the provinces road networks to boost tourism, said Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Helen Catalbas. Catalbas revealed that for 2019, out of 142 proposed road projects from different legislative districts in the Western Visayas, 11 are for Negros Occidental.

The cities that will benefit the road projects are Sagay, Cadiz, Talisay, Kabankalan, Sipalay, and the town of Binalbagan. The projects are composed of road constructions, rehabilitation, and upgrading of roads in the cities with an initial appropriation of PHP420million.

She added that once these road projects are completed, the province will be able to offer many tourist destinations. Thus, more livelihood programs will be provided to the community [2].

Passed Laws and Ordinance: Implementation of the excise tax starts to take effect

This year, the implementation of the second tranche of the excise tax is expected to take effect. More business owners fear that the fuel price increase will also affect the prices of goods and services.

According to Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry Executive Director Frank Carbon, diesel price had increased up to P4 per liter since January 15.

Carbon also mentioned that the fuel price hike in some gasoline companies started last January 14 at the average of P2 per liter. Once the implementation of the additional excise tax continues, diesel price will increase up to P4.50 per liter and P3.50 per liter for the gasoline price. [5].
