With Valentine’s Day coming soon, love is in the air! February is the season of couples, chocolates, and dates. But couples aren’t the only ones who can feel the love this month. Spending time with your friends and loved ones is the best way to spread and receive love. If you want to go out of your way and go to unique events, there are various events in Bacolod this February 2019 that might pique your interest. From exhibits to art sessions to open mic nights to live shows, there are plenty of options to choose from! 1. Charlie Co's "30,000 HRS"

From now until March 15, Orange Gallery will host the finest works that Charlie Co has done in the past two decades of his career. Through this exhibit, the gallery and the artist hope to open the eyes of the viewers to our personal history, which is woven from social, political and economic events that have happened in the last 20 years. Co will also hold an artist talk on February 6 and 9.
Tips for a good experience: Refrain from going in only to take selfies with the works. Look at the pieces well to appreciate them better. During the artist talk, try to be as engaging as you can so you can learn a lot.
How to get there: Take either a Bata or Mandalagan-bound jeepney that passes through the main roads of Bacolod. Ask to be dropped off at Art District.
2. Hugpong Para sa Panambiton

An open mic night for people who would want to showcase their talents in different ways

“Hugpong para sa panambiton,” which means to gather and speak out, is an open mic night hosted by Terrapinta. With a name that combines the Latin word terra (earth) and the local word pinta (paint), Terrapinta is a Bacolod-based group of artists that started in the 2000s. In their event, everyone is invited to share original poetry, songs, or other performance pieces. The event will run on three Saturdays of February and will start on the second week.
Tip for a good experience: If you are fond of writing poetry or songs and would like to share your work with others, this event is right for you. Practice beforehand in front of a mirror so you can gain confidence for the performance.
How to get there: From downtown, ride a public utility jeepney with the “Homesite – Central Market” route. Ask the driver to drop you off at Mudmonkeys.
3. Sunday Nudes Bacolod

Join the drawing session in the House of Frida to enhance your skills and discover new ones.

Sunday Nudes is an all-inclusive, body positive art community based in Quezon City. They offer sketching sessions for artists and models who would like to explore their skills. This month, they will be holding a figure drawing session in House of Frida. It is open to anyone who wants to explore more of his or her craft, whatever medium it is. If you wish to participate, register and reserve a spot by paying a registration fee of PhP500.
Tip for a good time: Be ready with your tools and supplies. During the event, relax and don’t be pressured to come up with a perfect work.
How to get there: Take either a Bata or Mandalagan-bound jeepney and ask to be dropped off at Café Bobs. House of Frida is located on the second floor of the café.

Want to be serenaded? Then mark this acoustic throwback tour in your calendar! Following his mini meet and greet last year, Stephen Speaks, together with Paolo Santos, will have a tour in Bacolod again this February 17. The tour will feature 90’s hits and, of course, the famous songs of Stephen Speaks, such as “Passenger’s Seat” and “Out of My League.”
Tip for a good time: Anticipate Stephen Speaks’ set list by listening to your 90’s favorites before his acoustic tour.
How to get there: Take a Bata, Mandalagan, or a Shopping-La Sall-bound jeepney and ask to be dropped off at SM City Bacolod.
5. Restrung

If you’re in the mood for classical music, Restrung is the event for you. It will feature the De LaSalle Vivace Strings, a group of young Lasallian musicians who are skilled in different genres. For this event, the music that they will perform range from Baroque music to classical romantic sounds to even contemporary songs from 2019. This is a two-day event and they will be performing at the University of St. LaSalle Bacolod.
Tip for a good time: During the event, listen! Refrain from talking to your seatmates or checking your phone so you can enjoy the show and avoid distracting the people around you.
How to get there: Ride a jeepney bound for Shopping La sale (if from Libertad) or Eroreco (if from the Downtown area) and asked to be dropped off at the university.
6. Drippin Love: an NCT February Birthday Celebration

NCT is a Korean boy group under the management of SM Entertainment. NCT means ‘Neo Culture Technology’—a concept coined by the founder of SM entertainment which describes a group with an unlimited of members divided into subgroups based in various cities worldwide. This February, Bacoleño fans of the group will hold a birthday celebration for NCT artists. This also serves as a meetup of like-minded individuals, as the Bacolod-based fan group aims to unite and create new memories with fellow fans.
Tip for a good experience: Don’t be shy in approaching people so you can gain a new friend with the same interests.
