Bacolod, travel, things to do, weather

Wet weather this week is predicted in Bacolod City. Meanwhile, it is advised to avoid traversing Hilado Street after the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) decided to postpone its traffic experiment. As such, heavy traffic might affect motorists in that area. Meanwhile in tourism news, Magikland was recognized as one of the newest tourism sites in the country during the Philippine Travel Mart (PTM). To keep the consumers alert from the spread of swine disease, the African Swine Fever Task Force in Negros Occidental is continuously conducting an information campaign. Keep reading for the details.

Weather Advisory: Cloudy skies and thunderstorms with scattered rains

Light to heavy rain showers will continue in the next seven days in Bacolod City. Possible afternoon thunderstorms are also expected to develop throughout the week. Since outdoor activities might not be a good idea for the gloomy weekend, finding new restaurants with the whole gang or watching new movie releases in malls would be perfect! The minimum temperature for this week is 30°C while the maximum temperature is at 31°C [1].

Traffic News: Traffic experiment postponed

The traffic experiment to transfer the three public utility jeepney (PUJ) terminals in the city will be postponed as per the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO). Police Lieutenant Colonel Luisito Acebuche, Head of BTAO, said that the local ordinance needs to be amended first before the implementation can take place [2].

It was proposed that terminals from Hilado Street be transferred to Daniel Ramos Street near the Burgos Public Market. This is in order to decongest Hilado Street, where big volumes of vehicles are blocking the area.

Travel Update: Magikland introduced in convention

The soon-to-open Magikland in Silay City, Negros Occidental was among the newest sites presented in this year’s Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) [3]. The convention was held at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City from August 30 to September 1, 2019.

Provincial Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Cristine Mansinares said that Negros Occidental aimed to expand its network by participating in travel expositions. She added that introducing new sites like Magikland will help develop tourism enterprise in the province.

The three-day event was composed of the Department of Tourism (DOT)-accredited tour operators. Bacolod presented its tour packages, wherein nature-based, cultural, culinary, and leisure and entertainment offerings of the province were highlighted.

Passed Laws and Ordinance: FDA bans certain goods

To ensure that the province is free from swine disease, the African Swine Fever Task Force in Negros Occidental highly discouraged consumers from buying Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-banned products [4]. Task Force Chairman Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson added that they are continuously doing information campaigns in the province.

Brands such as Ma Ling, Narcissus, Heaven Temple, Shabu Shabu, Sol Primo, Wang Taste of Korea, Highway, Sky Dragon, and Weilin were ordered by the FDA to be removed from market shelves. FDA also temporarily banned the importation, distribution, and sale of all processed pork meat products coming from various countries. These countries are China, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Vietnam, Zambia, South Africa, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Mongolia, Moldova, and Belgium.
