While the Bacolod city government comes up with initiatives to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus in the city, organizations led by Bacolodnons extend a helping hand to help COVID-19 patients. For one, a COVID-19 facility donated by Bacolod organizations was turned over to a government hospital in the city. Also, free swab tests for patients with COVID-19 symptoms were made available by the government to help vulnerable communities. Meanwhile, more than 1,700 market vendors participated in the surveillance testing for COVID-19 conducted by the government.


Quarantine News: More than 1,700 Bacolod market vendors tested for COVID-19


During the COVID-19 surveillance testing conducted by the city government of Bacolod in three major public markets, about 1,786 public market vendors were tested for COVID-19. Of this number, 695 participants were tested in Libertad Market, 600 in Burgos Market, and 491 in Central Market. The participants who were tested were given market passes and signages to be placed in their stalls showing that they have been tested. According to Administrator Em Ang, the market vendors were oriented about the program a week before the scheduled surveillance testing [1].

Zero active cases in 17 villages

A report released by Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Executive Director Em Ang showed that 17 out of the 61 Barangays in Bacolod City have no active COVID-19 cases. She expressed her hopes that these barangays will remain COVID-19-free and that more barangays will also have zero active cases. As of writing, barangays with zero cases are 4, 5, 9, 12, 13, 15, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 32, 34, and 38 [2].



Health News: Free swab tests for Bacolod residents with respiratory symptoms


Bacolodnons who have respiratory symptoms or COVID-19 symptoms can avail of the free swab tests at the Bacolod Respiratory Outpatient (BRO) Center at the Bacolod Arts, Youth, and Sports (Bays) Center. According to Councilor Renecito Novero, doctors at the BRO Center will determine whether or not a patient has to undergo the free swab test. The center for free swab tests is open from Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM only [3].

Hospital in Bacolod turns over COVID-19 facility

The 22-bed COVID-19 facility next to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) was turned over to CLMMRH last Saturday, October 10, 2020. The infectious disease facility will serve as one of the quarantine centers providing care to those recovering from the coronavirus disease. Donated by BioPower, ThomasLloyd, and co-donors from St. Scholastica’s Bacolod Alumnae Foundation and Negrense Volunteers for Change, the facility has enough space for coronavirus-related equipment, 22 individual rooms for patients, and medical worker facilities [4].
