Bacolod Adopts Safety Seal Certification Program for Establishments

To contain the spread of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Bacolod City, and ensure the health and safety of Bacolenos, Mayor Evelio Leonardia has ordered the creation of the Bacolod Safety Seal Committee (BSSC). [1] The BSCC’s function is to implement the Safety Seal Certification Program in business establishments and major public places. [2] The said program aims to ensure that health and safety protocols are in place and that business establishments within the city will comply with the minimum public health standards set by the national and local authorities. This requirement would also become part of the “new normal” when business and trade are conducted in Bacolod City.

The Safety Seal Certification program applies to the following: all private business establishments, wet markets, retail stores, restaurants outside hotels and resorts, fast food, eateries, coffee shops, banks, money changers, pawnshops, remittance centers, car wash, and laundry service centers, art galleries, libraries, museums, zoos, sports centers, tutorial, testing, and review centers, gyms, spas, cinemas, and arcades.

Moreover, the BSSC committee shall strictly comply with the EO guidelines in issuing the Safety Seal certification in Bacolod for eligible applicants and establishments. Part of the process is ensuring the efficient delivery of online certificates by creating a portal via www.bacolodcity.gov.ph.

As of this writing, the BSSC has already awarded certificates of Safety Seal to six business establishments in Bacolod City. [4] The establishments that received their Safety Seal Certifications include SM City Bacolod, Ayala Malls Capitol Central, Jollibee SM branch, Jollibee Lacson branch, McDonald’s Lacson branch, and Teleperformance. Mayor Evelio Leonardia spearheaded the awarding of certificates together with city councilors and business establishment managers. The committee will continue to inspect business establishments in compliance with the requirements to get the Safety Seal certificate.

Essentially, the Safety Seal is a piece of physical evidence that a particular establishment has complied with the government’s minimum health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Safety Seal is also a way to restore customer's trust by displaying conformity to health and safety protocols against the virus.
