There’s just a few days left before the summer season kicks in. Cebuanos typically find respite from the heat by swimming at the beaches in Mactan. But with one recently built development, Cebuanos need not drive across another island to get their dose of fun in the sun.

Sky Waterpark Cebu is the newest water park located at J Centre Mall in Mandaue City. Spanning 4,200 sqm, the facility features a guitar-shaped pool with Jacuzzi, an infinity pool, and a children’s play area. It also has a swim-up bar and casual dining restaurant serving American and Italian fare.

Having lived in the Philippines for seven years now, Sky Waterpark Cebu Vice President Simon Yang observed a lack of family-friendly recreational facilities in the city. Drawing from his previous work experience as general manager of Imperial Palace Resort (now JPark Island Resort and Waterpark), he thought to take advantage of the country’s tropical climate by building Sky Waterpark Cebu. “I wanted to have an area where all families can spend and enjoy quality time together in a convenient location,” said Yang.

After six months of concept development and planning, and one year of construction work, Sky Waterpark Cebu had their soft opening last November 2016. Their grand opening is set for April 2017.

One of the popular attractions at Sky Water Park Cebu is the water bucket at the children’s play area. At the top of the water house, flowing water is gathered inside a bucket. Every after eight minutes, the bucket fills up and spills over, giving swimmers below a good splash. On the other hand, the infinity pool offers swimmers a view of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City, while giving the illusion that the edge of the water is disappearing into the skyline.

Some features and amenities of the water park give a nod to Cebuano culture. The main pool for example, is shaped like a guitar in honor of the guitar-manufacturing hub of Lapu-Lapu City. The penguin mascots, on the other hand, are named Seb, Bo, Juan, and Noe, a clever wordplay on the word “Cebuano.” In the future, they plan to hold cultural shows featuring Cebuano dancing and music during dinner time.

After a few laps, guests can rest at the outdoor chaise lounges near the pool. Sky Waterpark also has cabanas which guests can rent and share with up to three persons. Cabana packages range from PhP2,500 to PhP3,500 inclusive of consumable food and drinks.

To ensure the safety of guests as they have fun, there are several Red-Cross-certified lifeguards on standby. There are also pool safety guidelines which remind guests that running, diving, and pushing are not allowed.

More activities, shops

The food court at Sky Waterpark Cebu

Aside from their own restaurant, Sky Waterpark Cebu has concessionaire stands which offer various cuisines to their diners. Currently, there is a coffee shop and a Korean stand in their food court. This line-up will soon include stalls selling Japanese and Filipino food. A spa and a gift shop are poised to open here as well.

To make summer fun for their visitors, Sky Waterpark management is working on adding more recreational activities like a water dunk game and Ping-Pong tables. “We are making sure that there is a place where parents can bring their kids, which they also can enjoy. So there’s a lot more to expect in Sky Water Park,” said Senior Sales Manager Nelifer Orbes.

For VP Yang, Sky Waterpark Cebu is more than a summer destination. “We built this water park for people to come together and spend quality time, where parents and children can interact with each other,” he shared. Indeed, summer is not only the time to soak up the sun, but also the time to create good memories with family and friends.

Sky Water Park is open every day from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Entrance fee promo rate is at PhP300 on weekdays after 3:00 PM until March 31. Guests are required to come in proper swimming attire. Outside food and drinks are not allowed.
