4 New Staycation Destinations in Cebu For Your Summer Break

Options include a deluxe hotel and beach resort and affordable cozy rooms.

With the temperatures rising, it’s not unusual for urban dwellers to long for the beach or someplace cool to escape the heat of the city. But sometimes, responsibilities at home or work, or even budget constraints, get in the way. If you want to go somewhere new without flying too far, check out these new staycation destinations to get the summer break you need.


Summit Galleria Cebu

The Sinulog Family Room gives a nod to Cebu’s grandest celebration.



Last March 14, Robinsons Land Corporation unveiled Summit Galleria Cebu, the newest boutique hotel in the city. It is located right beside the Robinsons Galleria Cebu mall. This upscale hotel brand offers 220 Super King, Super Twin, Super Family, and Suite rooms. On average, each room measures 32 sq. m. with amenities like quality beds and linens, non-allergenic pillows, and an open-plan wardrobe. Themed rooms like the Mango Family Room, Sinulog Family Room, and Lapu-Lapu Suite pay homage to Cebuano culture and history.

Rates: P2,479.46/night for Super Twin and Super King Rooms, Super Family Suite, Sinulog Suite, Mango Suite, and Lapu-Lapu Suite not available for booking


Moabog Reef and Resort

Camotes is one of the island destinations Cebuanos go to. Most of the resorts are in San Francisco and Pacijan Islands, but Moabog Reef and Resort offers an escape from the summer crowd. Opened last Jan. 28, Moabog is touted as the only deluxe hotel and beach resort in Ponson Island. The resort has 12 standard and executive air-conditioned rooms. Guests can swim at the nearby beach or swim at the pool, or go scuba diving with PADI-accredited instructors. Other amenities include a cafeteria, function room, shuttle service, and on-call massage service.

Rates: PhP3,000/night, standard room; PhP3,500/night, executive room




Uncle Tom’s Cabin Hotel

Uncle Tom’s offers well-appointed rooms at reasonable rates.



For budget-conscious travelers, Uncle Tom’s Cabin Hotel offers simple but cozy rooms combined with hospitable service. This new seven-storey neighborhood hotel has 103 guestrooms. Guests can choose from deluxe single, deluxe twin, deluxe king, and family rooms. At d’Table Restaurant and Café, guests can enjoy Western breakfast fare. They also have an outdoor pool, lounge, and spa and fitness center. Located at the heart of Cebu City in Capitol Site, travelers can expect to have easy access to lifestyle and entertainment spots and tourist destinations.

Palanas by the Sea Beach Resort

Palanas by the Sea, a new resort in Boljoon



The heritage town of Boljoon in southern Cebu is an interesting place to go to. Aside from visiting historical spots, travelers can also have some fun in the sun in resorts like Palanas by the Sea. Opened last October 2016, Palanas features three swimming pools with lounging decks overlooking the beach. Guests can stay at a bungalow good for two or a villa which can fit up to 12 people. One can relax at the neon-colored outdoor furniture in the garden, or dine at their restaurant with a ceiling of flowers.

Rates: Day use: PhP350 for adults, PhP175 for children aged five to 10 years old, free for children four years old and below
