Alternative Facial Salon Review Series: California Nails and Day Spa
A family-friendly spa that offers exceptional service

Facial care is very essential for both men and women. Our face is our main asset in presenting ourselves to the world, so many will agree that we must invest in professional skin care—something that will sustain our skin’s health and help slow down our aging process.

So, here’s the third installment of ShoppersGuide’s Alternative Facial Review Series featuring California Nails and Day Spa! We visited their Market-Market branch where we tried some of their signature services. Keep reading and be the judge if this place is what you’re looking for.

The Parking Area
The nail salon and spa is located on the third floor of the mall. You can leave your car in the designated parking locations around Market-Market.
The Waiting Area
California Nails and Day Spa’s interior can be seen from outside through the clear glass doors and panels.
The waiting area is situated just beside the reception where customers inquire for their available services.
The spa is well-lit, well-ventilated, and has a whimsical interior design which provides comfort and tranquility to the customers. The white and pink motif is very inviting for sassy girls who want to spoil themselves with new nail colors or a relaxing massage.
The CCTV is monitored by their branch manager at the reception area.
While waiting, we’ve observed that the spa is patronized by mother and daughter tandems spending their pamper time together. We went there on a Friday so we thought it was normal for the spa to get flocked with customers since it is almost weekend. But the receptionist told us that they really require clients to make an appointment via phone call so they could be surely attended by their staff.
The Actual Session
I was attended to at 15 minutes past 1 in the afternoon, after almost an hour of waiting. The staff led me to the spa room which is dimly lit but very calm and quiet. The room is quite cramped and can only accommodate two persons: the customer and the esthetician. However, the space was enough to perform the facial cleaning.

I had California Facial, a signature service which is patterned after the classic European facial that removes dead skin cell build up through deep pore cleansing, steaming, toning, and hydrating. This service costs PhP700.
The service was gently done and was very relaxing. My esthetician didn’t talk too much during the procedure unless I ask her. She didn’t explain what she was putting on my face and what should be next.
Since she was quiet, I grabbed the chance to take a nap while she was massaging my neck down to my shoulders. My favorite part is the soothing rub on the forehead every time she applies the cream.
It took an hour and 15 minutes to get the facial procedure done. There was no after-facial instructions given, in particular, advice on what to and what not to do on a newly cleansed face.
Services and Products
Apparently, their specialty focuses on nail care treatments, which is obviously reflected on its name. Gel Manicure, Acrylic Nails, Paraffin Treatments and Nail Art Designs, among other, are customers’ most availed services.

However, they don’t limit their services on nails. They have various facial care services, including the California Facial. Body scrub and waxing are also available in selected branches.

Various massage and nail treatments for kids are also available here that make them a family-friendly venue for relaxation.
Gift certificates (GCs) are available for those who want to give their friend and special ones some pampering treats.
The Divine
The interior has a cozy ambience that makes customers enjoy their relaxation time at the spa.
Every staff responded courteously to our questions regarding the spa. They seemed to master what they do and most of them are licensed estheticians. They are well-trained on their job.
They prioritize customers who have placed a reservation over the walk-ins. They practice punctuality so customers who won’t make it to the scheduled time can’t avail their services for that day.
For Improvement
The spa should expand their waiting area so they can accommodate customers who are willing to wait to get serviced.
Recommendation
Recommended for parents and children who want to spend pampering time together.
