Metro Manila, travel, things to do, weather

This week will see the beginning of September. In the Philippines, September is the start of the “ber months” which mark the holiday season. Thunderstorms are expected to come more frequently this month and traffic is expected to get worse due to repair works and the upcoming holiday rush. There are some good news though. Free Wi-fi is now available in several public places in Manila City, and the Alvarado Extension Road in Tondo has been opened to benefit residents and motorists. For the complete details on the metro’s weather, traffic, and more, read on.

Weather: Mostly rainy weather during the entire week

The start of September will be mostly wet due to the anticipated thunderstorms in Metro Manila. Along with frequent rainfalls, the day temperature would range from 28°C to 31°C [1]. Expect slight heavier traffic and even flight cancellations during intense rainfalls. For updated weather news, visit DOST-PAGASA’s website or to its social media page.

Traffic News: Ortigas Avenue Extension to undergo rehabilitation for four months

Heads up for motorists: traffic might get worse along Ortigas Avenue Extension from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM. This is because the drainage system in this area will be rehabilitated for four months. The rehabilitation will also include gutters and sidewalks. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) started the project last August 23, and it is expected to end in early December [2].

Travel Updates

Free Wi-Fi in several parts of Metro Manila now available

Free Wi-fi is now available in the Manila City Hall, Tondo Medical Center, Universidad de Manila, Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center, Manila Hospital, and Museo Pambata [3]. This service is part of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the local government of Manila and Smart Communications.

Alvarado Extension Road now open for public use

The Manila local government has opened the Alvarado Extension Road in Tondo, Manila to the public. The road used to be reserved for private use only. Its opening will be useful for motorists and pedestrians since it is close to schools like the Philippine Cultural High School and Chiang Kai Shek and the residential areas of P. Algue and Abad Santos [4].

Valenzuela LGU affirms authority rights to issue tickets for parking violations

Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian confirmed that traffic personnel are allowed to issue violation tickets for illegally parked vehicles in the city. Traffic personnel are tasked to follow the memorandum issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) which aims to reclaim all public roads used for private means, including those used as parking spots [5].
