Quarantine News: Palawan is generally placed under Alert Level 2

Palawan is still placed under Alert Level 2 effective July 1 until July 15. On the other hand, Puerto Princesa City, and Palawan municipalities of Culion and Cagayancillo, are still under Alert Level 1.

The latest alert level classification in Palawan was announced by Acting Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Martin Andanar last June 28.

As for the latest updates on the succeeding implementations of alert levels in the country, the two-week COVID growth rate will no anymore be part of the considerations in determining the classification of alert levels in each regional area.

The average COVID daily attack rates, healthcare utilization, and hospitalization records are now the main factors to consider in implementing the new alert levels. These factors are recommended by the sub-Technical Working Group for Data Analytics and further approved by the National Inter-Agency Task Force.

Travel Updates: Increased airfares on domestic and international flights

Airline tickets from Metro Manila bound to Puerto Princesa Palawan will start to hike effective July 1. Passengers will be charged an additional fuel surcharge of PhP706. Effective July 1, travelers shall expect an increase in airfare costs following the surge in fuel prices, affecting the expense of other related establishments and industries. This is also in effect with the rising prices of petroleum products that hiked up transportation costs.

This announcement was also validated by the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), which has issued a resolution to increase the fuel surcharge bracket. Under the resolution, starting July 1, airlines are now allowed to collect fuel charges starting from PhP355 to PhP1,038 per traveler or per head for domestic flights. As for the international flights, airlines shall charge PhP1,172.07 up to PhP8,714.84 per traveler.

According to a local news source, AirAsia Philippines and Cebu Pacific shall be implementing the fuel charges above. Meanwhile, Philippine Airlines (PAL) are yet to update its clients and consumers on the airfare increase effectiveness.
