When the province of Zambales was placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), most establishments were forced to cease operations—including Subic’s Ocean Adventure. Although the province is now under a general community quarantine, the impact of the ECQ and the global pandemic has already been made on the famous attraction. Subic’s Ocean Adventure, known to draw tourists in Subic Bay Freeport Zone every year, is currently appealing to the public for help to keep its animals alive and well.

The Subic Bay Marine Exploratorium, Inc.’s (SBMEI) operates Ocean Adventure as well as other tourist spots like Adventure Beach Waterpark and Camayan Resort. According to SBMEI President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Ianne Gonzaga, the place’s revenue has gone down to zero since the implementation of the ECQ while the costs and expenses of keeping the animals healthy remains high. As such, holding a donation drive for the animals is an unprecedented but necessary step for them to do.

Ocean Adventure relies on its revenues to shoulder the expenses for the caring and feeding of its animals. With its revenue in the red, the tourist spot now seeks help from the public by launching a donation drive that will be used to purchase animal food, medicine, and vitamins. Funds from the drive will also help support the animal caretakers, divers, volunteers, veterinarians, and lab techs who provide health care for the animals. The money will also be used to pay for utilities like pumps, freezers, and other equipment.

Any amount will be deeply appreciated by Ocean Adventure. There are specific amounts, however, that come with special gifts as an expression of gratitude from the water park. For a PhP5,000 donation, you can get a chance to meet the dolphin or sea lion you’re saving once the quarantine has been lifted. Meanwhile with a PhP10,000 donation, you not only get a meet and greet with the dolphin or sea lion, but you can also swim with him or her in Ocean Adventure’s facility! Finally, for any donation above Php50,000, you can get a stay worth two days and two nights at Camayan Beach Resort near the park in addition to a swim with the dolphins. If you cannot make it to Subic Bay, you can transfer the gifts to someone else.

If you wish to donate to Ocean Adventure, you may send in cash donations to Subic Bay Marine Exploratorium, Inc.’s RCBC and Metrobank accounts. Donations are also accepted through PayPal. For an easier transaction, you may scan the QR code provided by PayPal at Ocean Adventure’s website at https://oceanadventure.ph/. To get more information about the donation drive, you may reach them via email at sbmei@oceanadventure.ph.
