Locals and travelers will face a host of concerns this week in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental province including a rainy weather, a road widening in Sum-ag to Abuanan road, and halted tourism activities in Sipalay City. On the brighter side, a new tourist attraction in Binalbagan becomes more accessible, and Bacolod-Silay International Airport is now set for future expansion.


Rainy Weather for Bacolod



Rains and drizzles are in the forecast this week, most likely from July 17 to 21. The first two days of the week will be very sunny and humid. Wear your most comfortable light-colored, breathable fabrics. From Tuesday until Sunday, everyone is advised to bring an umbrella for protection from the rain. According to Accuweather, minimum temperature will be at 24 °C, while maximum temperature will be at 36 °C [1].


Sum-ag to Abuanan Road Widening



Locals and travelers who look forward to pass at Sum-ag - Abuanan Road will definitely see changes since the roadside acacia trees have already been cut. This is to make way for the road widening program by the Department of Works and Highways. The developers wanted to uproot all the trees in the area but the project was put on hold because of the rave of netizens. The trees beside the road were approximately 30 years old and was cut without the go signal from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Bago City [2].

Bacolod-Silay International Airport eyes expansion by 2019

An expansion project plan for Bacolod-Silay International Airport was revealed during the 2017-2022 Regional Development Plan Roadshow at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol. The project involves the expansion of the runway from 2,002x45 meters to 2,500x45m, and the terminal building space from 6,187 square meters to 41,900m2 area [3]. This is great news for future travelers in the city for there will be improvements not just in facilities but also services in the airport.


Caving and water activities in Sipalay suspended

Guests and adventure tour operators were advised by the Sipalay Tourism Office to cancel activities due to the projected bad weather forecast. Caving and water activities are put on hold until further notice for the protection of locals and guests. If you are a tourist planning to experience the above mentioned activities, it will be best to avoid for safety purposes. It is advised as well to always check the weather forecast to fully enjoy the vacation even during the rainy season.


Sunoy Bambi Falls, a new tourist spot

The highway leading to the waterfall was now enhanced by the Binalbagan town government to attract more tourists. The beauty of Sunoy Bambi Falls is breathtaking, picturesque, and offers a one-of-a-kind natural escapade [4]. As more tourism development projects is set to the municipality of Binalbagan, this falls will soon be a major tourist spot in the province. This is great news for tourists who are looking for new getaways in Negros Occidental. Tourists who are planning to go there are advised to coordinate with the office of Mayor Emmanuel Aranda at the Binalbagan municipal hall to make the most out of the trip.
