The sunny weather that lies ahead goes to show that summer is indeed coming to Bacolod. To help relieve traffic congestion in the City of Smiles, Mayor Evelio Leonardia turned over new additional motorcycle units to Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO). In tourism news, a consistent growth of tourism in the province has been noted, thanks to the many tourist destinations that the province has to offer.

Weather: Sunny to rainy for the week

There’s a lot of sunshine to expect in the City of Smiles. The humidity is on the rise with a temperature of 34 °C on Sunday, March 10. This will be the perfect time for some outdoor activities. But before doing so, make sure to keep yourselves hydrated to cope with the summer-like temperature. Few stray showers are possible to drop by Friday, March 15 and the rest of the weekend [1].

Traffic News: City Mayor turned over new motorcycle units to BTAO

Aiming for a better and organized traffic management in the city, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and the rest of the city councils turned over seven brand new units of Rouser Kawasaki motorcycle for the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) [2].

Colonel Luisito Acebuche, head of BTAO said that this project was initiated by Mayor Leonardia. He added that these new motorcycle units will help the enforcers respond in traffic congested areas, traffic incidents, and instances of illegal parking around the city. BTAO now has a total of 19 motorcycles to utilize. However, only regular traffic enforcer employees are allowed to use the new motorcycle units for accountability purposes.

Travel Update: Tourism in Negros Province increases

Tourism in the province keeps on growing, according to Cristine Mansinares, Provincial Supervising Tourism Operations officer. She said that tourist arrivals have increased by two percent in 2018.

Last year, 1,756,026 domestic and foreign tourists arrived in the province from January to December. This marks a 31,893 increase compared to the previous year. The agency logged tourists from Korea, Japan, Russia, Australia, China, Canada, Germany, the UK, and India. Tourists from the United States are the most plentiful with a total of 16,362 visitors.

Ms. Mansinares also stated that through this tourism boom, the province now has 293 accommodation establishments which offer a total of 5,853 rooms. She added that these establishments have provided 3,694 direct jobs to the community.

Contributing cities in the growth of Negros Occidental’s tourism are Escalante City, Cadiz City, Silay City, Bacolod City, Talisay City, San Carlos City, Murcia, Bago City, Kabankalan City, and Sipalay City [3].
