Metro Manila, travel, things to do, news, weather

Here are a few things to expect in Metro Manila this week: humid to rainy weather; cleaner public places in Manila such as Plaza Miranda and Blumentritt Ave thanks to the local government’s cleanup drive; and, lastly, a scheduled power interruption to affect areas in Pasig City and Quezon City on July 13 and 14. To get the full details on this week’s travel news, keep reading.

Weather: Expect sunny to rainy weather during the whole week

The weather will be a mix of sun and rain for the entire week: days could be sunny in the morning with thunderstorms in the afternoon. Expect warm temperature that will range from 31 °C to 33 °C during the day [1].

Bring rain protection if you’re travelling or commuting. Monitor the news and PAGASA’s website and social media pages for weather updates. If you’re flying anytime this week, make sure to check the social media page of your airline for flight cancellations or delays due to the weather.

Traffic News: Blumentritt Avenue now passable

Vehicles can now pass through both lanes of Blumentritt Avenue thanks to the Manila City government’s cleanup operations. The cleanup project focuses on crowded public spaces like Divisoria, Binondo, and Carriedo. The operation aims to clear the target areas of street vendors and other obstacles that affect the traffic flow [2].

Travel Updates

Plaza Miranda is now free of vendors

Like in Blumentritt Avenue, vendors are now kept out from Plaza Miranda in Quiapo under the same cleanup operations. Devotees can now view the image of the Black Nazarene at the center of Quiapo Church without being hindered by vendors. After the cleanup, pedestrians now also have more space to walk around [3].

Several parts of Manila to be affected by scheduled brownouts

Urbanites who live in Pasig City and Quezon City can expect brownouts on July 13 to 14, 2019. Between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, areas like Manggahan and Santolan will be affected by the maintenance and upgrading of rotted wooden poles. For the complete list of affected areas, check Meralco’s website [4].
