For most Filipinos in the city, trips to malls and parks with dazzling Christmas lights are an affordable way to enjoy the festive season with friends and family. Besides light shows, fireworks displays are also abundant, especially for the New Year countdown to 2020 in Metro Manila . Wherever you are located in the metro, there are many attractions and places to celebrate the New Year where you will be treated to the most spectacular sights. 1. New Year’s 2019 Countdown at 5th Avenue, BGC

When: December 31, 2019
Where: 5th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City
Entrance fee: None

Bonifacio Global City’s annual Christmas light show has always been a grand spectacle. Each year, the city adopts a theme for its Christmas display, and this 2019, it unveiled a stunning 55-foot Christmas tree along with fairy tale-themed decorations. For the entire month of December, you can participate in different activities, including a free concert by Coke Studio that features big artists like Sarah Geronimo. fireworks displays would be held every Friday night and also during the New Year’s countdown.

How to get to 5th Avenue, BGC: Ride the MRT to Ayala Station. Exit the station on the northbound side and walk to the BGC bus terminal. Ask the attendant in the ticket booth for the bus that will pass 5th Avenue. Landmarks to look for are the Mind Museum and Net Park.


2. Grand Pyro Musical at Riverbanks Center

When: December 30, 2019; 7:00 PM
Where: Riverbanks Center Amphitheater
Entrance fee: None

If you’re from the East, end 2019 with a bang at Riverbanks Center’s Grand Pyro-Musical Show. The Grand Pyro-Musical Show is an annual celebration in Marikina which features big musical acts. This year, the crowd will be serenaded by Side A and Ben & Ben. A gorgeous fireworks display will conclude the night. And along with the music and fireworks, good food and exciting games would also add more fun to the event.

How to get to Riverbanks Center: Ride the LRT-2 and alight at Cubao Station. Ride a UV Express that has any of the following signs: “Calumpang,” “Parang Fortune,” or “SSS Village.” Ask the driver to drop you off at the Riverbanks Center.


3. Annual Eastwood Fireworks Display at Eastwood Mall

When: Until January 13, 2020 (fireworks display scheduled every weekend)
Where: Eastwood Mall Open park, E. Rodriguez Avenue (C-5), Bagumbayan Quezon City, Philippines
Entrance fee: None

Launched last November, Eastwood City’s Christmas Toy Town is a dazzling Christmas display whose main attraction is a stunning 40-foot Christmas tree. Life-sized Christmas toy decorations will also be around to give you many photo-worthy moments. Besides the decorations, fireworks will also light up the entire Eastwood area as grand fireworks displays are scheduled every weekend. Other attractions at the Christmas Toy Town are chorale performances and meet and greet with Santa himself. The light show will run until January 13, 2020.



How to get to Eastwood Mall: Ride either the LRT-2 or MRT to Cubao Station. Walk outside the Gateway Mall and walk towards Isetann and Aurora Arcade. Turn right to General Romulo Avenue. Ride a jeepney heading to Libis and get off at Eastwood. The landmark to look for is Citibank Square. Cross the highway to get to Eastwood, where the Eastwood Mall is located.


4. Fireworks Displays at Ayala Malls

Where and When:
Trinoma (up to January 1, 8:00 PM)
UP Town Center (December 31, 7:00 PM)
Fairview Terraces (December 28, 7:00 PM)
Alabang Town Center (December 28 and 29, 6:55 PM)
Entrance fee: None

Another spectacular holiday celebration can be had at the Ayala Malls. Each mall has different themes and activities for the holidays. You can head to Alabang Town Center, Ayala Malls Cloverleaf, Fairview Terraces, TriNoma, and UP Town Center. The schedule varies per mall.

How to go to Fairview Terraces: If you’re coming from EDSA, ride a bus bound for Fairview. Tell the conductor to drop you off at Fairview Terraces.



How to go to UP Town Center: From UP Diliman, ride a jeep to Katipunan. These jeeps have the “Katipunan ikot” signage. Ask to be dropped off at the U.P. Town Center. Cross the highway to get to the mall. Pay the minimum fare.

How to go to Alabang Town Center: From EDSA, ride a bus heading to Ayala. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Ayala Center Terminal. From the terminal, look for a UV or GT Express bound for Pillar Village via Skyway. Ask the driver to drop you off at Alabang Town Center.

How to go to TriNoMa: Ride the MRT-3 then get off at the North Avenue Station. The station is directly linked to Trinoma.



5. New Year Countdown at Rizal Park

When: December 31 to January 1, 2020; 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM
Where: Burnham Green Western Section, Rizal Park, Manila
Entrance fee: None

The theme for the holiday festivities at Luneta park is “Kapaskuhan at Kabayanihan.”

Besides malls, another spot in the city where you can view pretty fireworks is the Luneta Park. Free concerts will be held at the park every Sunday of the month, and on New Year’s Eve, you can welcome 2020 in Rizal Park’s New Year Countdown. The guests artists who will grace the event are Hale, Ney Dimaculangan (former vocalist of 6cyclemind), Anima Tierra, Just Hush, and Soapdish.

How to get to Luneta Park: Ride the LRT-1 and alight at United Nations Station. Exit the station and walk towards T.M. Kalaw. From there, you’d already see Luneta Park, which is also near the Manila Pavillion.
