Although the Masskara Festival is definitely the highlight this month, there are still some events that can make your October the best one yet!


October is the month of the Masskara Festival, so it’s not hard to see why it is the most anticipated month of the year for Bacolodnons. Filled with parties, competitions, and special events, the Masskara Festival is a three-week celebration in the City of Smiles. The streets will be alive with the sound of jubilant music and the sight of spectators from all over the world attending the attractions of the festival. Take a peek at some of the biggest events prepared by the city government below.

1. Pawasak Festival 2019

Where: One Love Sports Resto Bar, Magsaysay Ave., Bacolod City
When: October 5, 2019

Metalheads! Old Colony PH is hosting Pawasak Festival 2019, an underground music event featuring heavy metal bands like Suwail from Laguna, Soul Engrave from Manila, and three guest bands from Iloilo: Trauma, Bloodreich, and Mongrel Blood. “Pawasak” means “going for broke” or “pawala” which translates to “being unbothered or carefree.” Although this festival is perfect for rock music lovers, it is exclusive to people aged eighteen and above since alcoholic drinks will be sold during the event.



Tip for a better experience: Come early to have a better seat since there are no ticket reservations. The tickets will be available at the venue.

How to get to One Love Sports Resto Bar: Find a Pta. Taytay-Central Market PUV near the Bacolod Public Plaza located at the downtown area. The jeepney should head south of the city. Ask the driver to drop you off at Shell gas station in front of Star Oil gas station located along Magsaysay - Araneta Avenue. From there, cross the street going to Star Oil and ride a trisikad or tricycle. Ask the driver to drop you in front of One Love Sports Resto Bar.


2. Tawag ng Bacolod

Where: SMX Convention Center, SM City Bacolod
When: October 6, 2019; 8:00 PM

Hosted by Topher Entertainment Production, Tawag ng Bacolod is a concert for a cause held for the benefit of St. Vincent’s Home Inc., a home for the aged. In this event, iconic Filipino singer, songwriter, composer, film scorer, and television host Rey Valera will serenade Negrenses together with Dulce, a Filipina singer and actress.

How to get to the SMX Convention Center: If you are from the eastern area of the city, ride either a Fortune Towne-Central Market or Homesite-Central Market PUV heading to the downtown area. PUVs with Bata-Libertad, Mandalagan-Libertad, Pta.Taytay-Central Market, and Shopping La Salle-Central Market routes coming from the north and south of Bacolod will also pass by SM City Mall. Get off at the north wing of the mall. The SMX Convention Center is located at the 3rd floor.


3. BaCon Pop Vol. 2

Where: Ayala Malls Capitol Central, Gatuslao St., Bacolod City
When: October 11 to 13, 2019
Ticket prices:
One-day pass: PhP150
Two-day pass: PhP250
Three-day pass: PhP350

A fun-filled environment for anime lovers and cosplayers!

BaCon Pop Vol. 2 is a a yearly convention that gathers hobbyists, pop culture enthusiasts, local talents and artists, and cosplayers. The event will feature a cosplay group and solo competition, a cosplay parade, a Mobile Legends Tournament, a K-pop dance crew competition, and art contests. The cosplay competition is particularly interesting as it features a twist: participants should perform a skit presentation, and this covers 30% of the criteria for judging. Tip for a better experience: This event is child-friendly. Real weapons or objects are prohibited in the convention.

How to get to Ayala Malls Capitol Central: From the North Ceres Terminal, ride a Bata-Libertad jeepney. Meanwhile, if you are from Libertad or downtown area, find a Mandalagan-Libertad PUV. Ask the driver to drop you off in front of the Ayala Malls Capitol Central at the back of the Lagoon. You will see the mall as you get off from either of the PUVs.


4. Born Brave

Where: SMX Convention Center, SM City Bacolod
When: October 12, 2018
Ticket prices:

This event aims to empower people who are suffering from mental conditions.

Born Brave is a charity gala event that will showcase works from reputable designers. Models comprising of past contestants of Binibining Pilipinas, Mutya ng Pilipinas, and Mr. Philippines will show off the designers’ works on the runway. The proceeds of the event will go to children with Down Syndrome at the Happy Hearts Foundation. It would also support the Youth for Mental Health Coalition, an organization that helps people with depression.

5. Resurgence

Where: Negros Occidental Multipurpose Gym, Aguinaldo St., Bacolod City
When: October 18, 2019

The organizers named the event “Resurgence” to bring back the Negrosanons’ interest in Philippine rock music.

Resurgence is the biggest rock music festival in Visayas, and it aims to bring the band and rock scene back to life. Pinnacle performances from Typecast, Valley of Chrome, Greyhoundz, and Sickpig will be featured during the show. If you are a fan of punk/rock music, these popular Philippine rock bands will spice up your Masskara experience.

How to get to the Negros Occidental Multipurpose Gym: From the North Ceres Terminal, Mandalagan area, or Lacson Street, take the Bata-Libertad PUV which passes by the Provincial Capitol Lagoon near the multipurpose gym. Meanwhile, if you are coming from Libertad, Downtown, or SM City Mall, find a Mandalagan-Libertad PUV. In either vehicles, ask the driver to drop you off along the North Capitol Road at the corner of Aguinaldo Street. Walk a few meters and you will see the Negros Occidental Multipurpose Gym beside the ARB Call Facilities building.
