Boracay, news, travel, things to do, weather

Most days will remain gloomy in Boracay this week. But the good news of the week outshines the lousy weather. First is the possible extension of the task force in charge of the island. Another great news is the cancellation of the proposal for a casino on the island. Lastly, visitors who have not witnessed the majestic fireworks display have the possibility to enjoy it this year. This will be possible if the task force will allow the proposal from the local council of Malay. Read on for more details!

Weather: Expect morning showers and cloudy evenings

Morning showers can be expected throughout the week. Some days, especially in the latter part of the week, can also become cloudy at dusk with some rain. But the sun is likely to show up in the middle of the day on most days. Temperatures of the week will range between 25°C to 29°C [1].

No matter what the weather, December remains to be the best time to visit the island. It’s when the waves of the White Beach are calmer. As the holiday season nears, however, tourist influx is expected too. There can be long lines at the port. Bring more patience with you on your vacation.

Travel Updates

Extension of Boracay task force pushed

The extension of the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF), which lead the rehabilitation of the island, is being pushed [2]. The group was expected to serve only until May next year. Their extension is to ensure that the island’s rehabilitation efforts could be sustained. Meanwhile, another development authority is being planned to replace the BIATF whose bills on creation remain pending in Congress.

No more casino in Boracay

The multi-million proposed casino for Boracay will no longer be pushed through [3]. This was confirmed by the developer Leisure Resorts & World Corp. The casino is supposed to start construction next year. Aside from the casino, the proposed plan also included an integrated resort. The plan, however, received massive opposition, as even President Rodrigo Duterte refused to approve it.

Passed Laws and Ordinance: Fireworks this New Year eyed in the island

The local council of the town has requested the task force for Boracay rehab to lift the ban for fireworks display this coming New Year [4]. A grand fireworks display at the White Beach was one of the most anticipated events on the island before. The resolution, authored by Councilor Nennete Graf, aims to allow the fireworks display from 11:30 P.M. on December 31 to 12: 30 AM on January 1, 2020.
