1. Powerhouse Valentine - Hajji Alejandro & Dessa with Philippine Madrigal Singers

When: February 14, 2020; 8:30 PM
Where: Monet Ballroom, Novotel Manila, Araneta City
Ticket Price: PhP8,500

The Powerhouse Valentine concert is called “powerhouse” for a reason: it features OPM icon Hajji Alejandro along with the internationally acclaimed Philippine Madrigal Singers and sensational performer Dessa. Hajji Alejandro has been in the music industry for 45 years and is behind hits such as “Nakapagtataka" (Baffling), “Panakip Butas" (Rebound), and “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika" (How Beautiful Is Our Music).

On the other hand, the Philippine Madrigal Singers won the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in 1997 and 2007—making them the first choir in the world to win the award twice. Meanwhile, just like Hajji, Dessa has an impressive vocal range and stage presence. She has won international awards because of her powerful voice. Some of her more popular hits are “San Ka Man Naroroon” (Wherever You Are) and “Bring Back The Times.”

Concert proceeds will be donated to the Philippine Cancer Society. Tickets are available at TicketWorld outlets and TicketWorld online.

Tip for a good experience: Since the venue is a hotel, check if there’s a dress code for the event and follow it.

How to go to Novotel Manila: Take an LRT-2 train and alight at the Araneta Center-Cubao Terminal Station. Exit the station and walk in the direction of Gateway Mall and pass through the red gate. Novotel Manila is beside the Araneta Center.

2. JR Richards of Dishwalla Live in Manila

Where: Metrotent, Metrowalk, Pasig City
Ticket Prices:
PhP1,100 – General Admission
PhP3,300 – Premium
PhP5,500 – VVIP with sound check and meet and greet

Dishwalla will always have a special place in the heart of every 90s kid because of its decade-defining hit song, “Counting Blue Cars.” This month, long-time fans can watch the band’s former vocalist JR Richards perform in a series of shows in the Philippines. Now an independent solo artist, JR Richards has released four albums since he began his solo career. He will be joined by local band Shamrock in his Pasig and Cebu City shows. Richards will also be performing in Bohol and Cabanatuan. Tickets are available at SM Tickets outlets and SM Tickets online.

Tip for a good experience: The area around Metrotent experiences heavy traffic during rush hour. Since the show will start at 8:00 PM, start your travel an hour early to account for traffic. The Metrotent’s parking slots are few, so arriving early would also mean that you can secure a parking spot.

How to get to Metrotent: Take the MRT and get off at Ortigas Station. Head to SM Megamall and ride a jeepney or UV Express heading to Robinsons Galleria. From there, ride a jeep heading to Rosario and ask the driver to drop you off at Meralco Ave. A landmark to be on the lookout for is the Home Depot. Metrowalk is in front of Marco Polo Hotel, and the Metrotent is within the area.
