Exciting news for motorists! The Land Transportation Office has just released the schedule for issuing plastic driver’s license cards, ending the long wait. Thanks to the recent decision by the Court of Appeals, one million plastic cards were delivered to the Land Transportation Office's central office, making it possible to issue them to all qualified drivers.

It was recalled that around 3.2 million pieces of plastic cards were not delivered to the Land Transportation Office last year due to a court injunction from a losing bidder. On March 25, 2024, one million plastic cards were delivered after the Court of Appeals lifted the injunction order.

The Land Transportation Office has announced that its offices are currently preparing for the distribution process and for motorists to claim their plastic-printed driver’s license, including those given with paper-printed driver’s licenses, starting April 15.

As per the Land Transportation Office memo, the approved schedule for renewal of the driver’s license is mentioned below:

Driver's licenses expiring between April 1 to Aug. 31, 2023, and April 1 to 30, 2024, will be renewed from April 15 to 30.

Licenses expiring between September 1 to December 31, 2023, and May 1 to May 31, 2024, will be renewed in May.

Finally, driver's licenses expiring between January 1 to March 31, 2024, and June 1 to June 30, 2024, can be renewed from June 1 to June 30.

It is important to note that renewal of a driver’s license within the designated time frame is crucial as the license will lose its validity and will not be legally recognized if failed to do so. Therefore, drivers need to renew their permits before expiration to avoid any legal complications while operating a vehicle on the road.
