Bacolod City Is Now On General Community Quarantine

Update: The entire province of Negros Occidental is under enhanced community quarantine from 12:01 AM of March 30 until 11:59 PM of April 14, 2020. As such, enhanced community quarantine protocols be enforced.

The city implements preventive measures due to the continuous threat of COVID-19 in the country. Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia issued Executive Order (EO) No. 21 series of 2020 declaring the city under the state of general community quarantine [1]. Under this order, all land, sea, and air travel to and from Bacolod City are restricted. Leonardia emphasized that basic goods and supplies will not be restricted from entering the city, but proper precautionary procedures shall be observed.

Checkpoints will also be set up and will be manned by the Philippine National Police and Philippine Coast Guard at the city’s points of entry. The city government will also implement strict rules and regulations in coordination with the inter-agency task force against COVID-19.

Classes were also suspended in all levels, public and private, until further notice, after the mayor signed Executive Order No. 14 and 15 series of 2020 last March 14. Schools must consider alternative learning strategies for the continued education of their students during the suspension [2].

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson signed Executive Order No. 20-15 series of 2020 issuing the closure of borders, ports, and airports in Negros Occidental [3]. Checkpoints will be set up on the following borders: Mabinay-Kabankalan, Bayawan-Hinobaan, San Carlos-Vallehermoso, and La Castellana-Canlaon. The entry of individuals with or without symptoms are restricted although residents of the province are allowed to enter the borders if they provide a valid government-issued ID. Returning residents must undergo the 14-day quarantine, get an endorsement from their respective barangays, and be monitored by Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams [4].
